Show THE PULLMAN STRIKE the S P boycott stops every wheel on the line A ot U lut Kven lne t which me strikers deelda upon plan of action the Is on at egden yesterday the workmen in the southern pacific shops went out and soon after tho yard men and followed suit up to 3 p m the bulletin boards announced that the southern pacific 4 train would out on time but when 4 p arrived the train did not budge and remains inthe tame position it occupied yesterday the yard master assisted by mp loyes who are not members of the A R U transferred the pullmans to the southern pacific tracks and the train was made up by nonunion non union men only to remain stationary at the depot about forty passengers in yesterday the union pacific and aitio grande western and kept superintendent knapps office in a state of selee all the afternoon some had through tickets to california while others had transportation only to ogden the latter class to buy tickets to san francisco but were refused the passengers waited upon tin perin knapp in a body and demanded that the railroad company transport them on to california or reimburse them for any expense of laying over the passengers claim that the roads which they came to ogden did their duty in delivering them here on time and that the southern pacific is legally bound to lake them on superintendent knapp politely informed them that the trains were not running and that the southern pacific could not be responsible for their expenses the passengers then held a meeting and elected a committee to wait upon an attorney atto ruey to find oat if they had any legal redress the committee called upon and presented their case to judge chodes who took the matter under consideration the depot Is thronged with restless people some lau ehlig in their discomfiture and others extremely solicitous about getting away they were informed tant it would be much wiser to remain contented in ogden than to be tied up in the deserts of nevada which would probably he the case with train that should pull out of this city the train which left ogden yesterday at 2 only reached reno where it will probably pio bably remain till the strike is the train which left san francisco thursday night only proceeded as far as blockland the tie up is complete last evening every department of the southern pacific was closed down ahe freight offices and workshops have been shut up to remain closed indefinitely not a wheel la being turned along the whole line mr sherman of tha nio Grande western stated that the regular trains carrying carry ins pullmans will pull out on time the union pacific will continue to run as usual but with wagner cars the A R U held an meet tag bat evanine in thomas hall and endorsed the action of the officers of the union in order lne the boycott and also the action of the local organization in going out on the strike the regulations of the A II 11 U provide that when a man is discharged the entire system is called out and remain out the discharged man is reinstated that Is if the man is not discharged for cause but for some reason ot anich the present trouble is an instance refusing to handle pullman cars the meeting declared that the cause of the tie up on the Bont bern pacific was abo discharge of who refused to bobev orders to handle pullman cars and the conclusion arrived 1 wag to the effect that the man would not go back to work unless the southern pacilio annulled their contract with pullman and run their own cars or any other line of sleepers it that s done the boycott will be declared off the sentiment of the meeting was not against the southern pacific or any railroad line particularly the idea Is to lorce pullman to arbitrate the difference between him and his employed emp loyes and the A IS U intend to accomplish this even it every A K U man fn america h called out the situation late last night was unchanged the melare firm and under no circumstances will the regulations of the union be disobeyed the depot presents an idea of not a wheel moving or a shop door open |
