Show THE NEXT BEST MEASURE now th at the silver purchase act of the sherman law baa been repealed it is to bo hoped that the Voorhees repeal bill will be passed by congress instead of the wilson bill so far as concerns the repeal of the sherman act the two measures are the same but the voorhees bill is plain and outspoken in favor of bi much more so than abo wilson measure the voorhees bill is the product of the republican members of the sebato finance committee and provides it Is hereby declared to be the policy of the united states to continue the uso of both gold and silver standard money and to coin both gold and silver into money of equal intrinsic value and it Is hereby further declared that the effort of the government should be steadily directed to the establishment of such a safe system of bimetallism as will maintain at all times the equal power of every dollar coined or issued by the united states in the markets and in the payment of debts in exchangeable value such equality to be secured through international agreement or by such safeguards of legislation as will insure the maintenance of the parity in value of the coins of the two metals and the equal power of every dollar at all times in the markets and in the payment while this provision does not satisfy western silver interests there can be no fuestion lu estion that a law ot that kind would pave the way for legislation looking to he protection of silver and be a guarantee eliat silver interests shall not jo completely sacrificed it appears to the next best measure |
