Show BOARD OF EDUCATION several matters of interest under consideration last night although alie board f education biad adjourned at the last meeting to 7 30 it was considerably utter 8 last night when president liar combo called the regular weekly session to order all members being then present several bids were received for walks and repairs ac the various buildings and refined to the members in whose wards repairs are needed the claim of atwith JT With for waa presented for the third time and laid upon the table pending a final settlement tl professor page bent in a report showing that there are twentysix twenty six non resi dent students attending the public schools of taft city the clerk wag instructed ted to notify the trustee of abo districts in which the nonresident non resident children live that the children are attending the city schools and call upon them for 5 for each child A number of claims were presented audited and allowed four bids for the winter supply of coal were received and referred to the committee having alie matter in cli argo emerson and dee submitted the following bids received for alie city warrant first national bank 90 utah loan company ogden state bank citizens bank after a great deal of wrangling between dee mr emerson mr patterson and treasurer broach regarding the various phases of alie sale of the warrant most of which was of an exceedingly petty cliar acter the warrant was sold to the highest bidder tho citizens bank the purchase arico being mr patterson offered abo following resolution wi resolved that the resolution offered and adopted at a regular meeting of the board of education held june 23 1893 regulating the wages of teachers in the employ of the city schools be reconsidered this resolution brought up the old discussion regarding salaries which has been goa ver eo times the active members of the dispute being dee patterson and alie two latter holding that the amounts paid the teachers are not in many equitable while the former still maintained that the schedule adopted in june provides for salaries as high as the board can give alie present state of finances being taken into consideration 1 finally patterson withdrew tho resolution which had caused so much talk and substituted the following as an additional dit ional clause to the resolution now on record resolved that a standing committee bo appointed by the president of the board 0 the superintendent of schools shall bo a member and that the committee shall investigate as to the experience educational qualifications government and control of pupils ability to teach and general character of the teachers now employed or who may hereafter bo employed in the public schools under the control of alie board of education and after such investigation by the committee tho wages of the teacher or teachers will be either raised or lowered in accordance with the report and recommendation of alie committee dee called attention to alie fact that a contract had already been entered into with tho teachers and their salaries can not bo lowered although of course there is nothing in alie contract which would increase the matter went over without action alie assignment of the teachers in the public schools alie number of pupils attending each building gaspre aenied by alie superintendent and ordered filed it will be given in full on sunday professor page called attention lo 10 alie fact that there are heads of families in this city who are disregarding the provisions of the school law which expressly provides eliat cli ildren of certain age must attend the public ahooye these people have children who have never attended the schools the members were all requested to look into the matter in their wards after some discussion of the financial of the board an adjournment was taken subject to the call of the resident |
