STANDARD special correspondence that U utah tali bag has taken an active and creditable part in lit the worlds I 1 a exposition no ope who hami visit ed i t their liipa am fair air from fro utah will deny As a r eare ent alive of THE STANDARD I 1 have spent sometime time looking over the worlds fair and I 1 find chatin roost most of the departments we have a creditable show allow in ili talk talking I 1 ng wi with 1 th utah people I 1 am ant pleased to say say that they are well satisfied fied and have no fault to find with utah exhibits the benefit to the 11 territory derived by an exhibit juchas utah has made cannot be estimated it has created an entirely dif different impression in regard to utah and her resources it is astonishing bow many people look upon a utah as a desert and when they see the products of the soil which whichard chare atre here on exhibition they are simply astonished in n the agricultural department utah ha has a t most creditable display the grains and grasses excel anything that is shown in that great building the irrigation map which shows the hear bear river canal attracts a wonderful amount of atef atlon farmers dro arop p in from all portions of the cori country to eja examine mine his map and superintendent ts is kept busy answering questions rhe the map is so arranged that it shows the bear river canal I 1 system in actual operation water wate r flows oa over it and down through the ditches irrigating the f fields and orchards and it isan Is in every war way a practical illustration of the of irrigation it tells its own stoy story being self explanatory people who know nothing about irrigation soon become familiar wilt the system by examining this map and many who have considered it impracticable go away convinced that it Is the most scientific way of farming known and they are not surprised at the tile wonderful yield anich we boast of in utah a party of farmers from illinois visited the utah exhibit and one old gentleman who is rather rious thought farming by irrigation was defying the al mighty lie Is eaid said that be planted hi ills corn and waited for the lord to water it and if the lord did not want him to have a crop the tile lo lords loda da will be done lie ile said that he could pray for rain and the lord would care for him another old gentleman in fit the parly party with a 4 more practical turn of mind remarked well vell my friend while you are re praying praying for rain aliese mormons llo a are re ill digging gg ng ditches and when the ditch Is 1 done abey are dead sure of water and a crop when on you are through praying there he re is consi considerable gu erable uncertainty both A about nt rain and the crop the majority edthe lie party patty concluded that there was great it deal in lit it and most of them said they would bo be glad if they the could regulate the water for their buo supply crops as perfectly as it was done in utah in the minin mining department utah has the reputation of baving having the most varied exhibits orally of any state or country in the grand mining bul bulf ding iding it is arranged in ili such a practical way that it attracts attention at once A areat great many capitalists capita liate have been attracted by y our exhibit in ill this building and ceef maguire Is constantly answering I 1 ind questions in lit regard to the mineral pro nets of the territory the exhibit of laro the lie products ducts of the waters of great salt lake like products Ero has as attracted a great many investors A party of english capitalists the be other day as chief I 1 maggire 1 informs me considered that exhibit aline alone worth a visit to the fair they expressed them themselves elves as being that no one had taken advantage of the he wonderful richness of these products and entered upon their manufacture they all hav having i ng commercial value the pe percentage leenta is higher in all salts and alk alkalis al I 1 ITI ban an they found in any other portion of the globe with the llon tion of the waters of the dead bea sea thia this party has commenced looking the matter up and arid it is more than probable that bom something ething will result from froni ft it which will beo be of great benefit to utah TI the lecak cabinets nets prepared ared wyvice by vice president are credited nith fill being the fi fenest n e a p private to collection of minerals in the b building i ding and most keople people consider tb them ent far more beautiful than the famous silver statute of montana which is next door utah people are visiting the fair up J to the present time overta A have registered at the utah building this speaks well ana from what I 1 can learn I 1 think that tile atte attendance 11 dance in proportion to the population is larger from brog utah t v than from any other western state or territory it t is even better than that from front many of or the eastern states A large number of garden ogden people have been beer here among whom 1 I note W V N shilling C ailena A henry V F 3 cannon 1 I L I 1 dark clark L dr r 8 L krick bric c 1 dr perkins ns J 8 peery and a large number of other they all express themselves vel as satisfied with exhibit and the exposition generally in my next letter I 1 will try and arid give the readers of TUB tile a brief account of some of the many thing things to be seen at the fair I 1
