If all fathers and mot hen; wore truthful, the result might not be to extirpate the race of liars, for liars must have originated and may well originate again, but it would surely diminish them. When these children of careless parents come to grief, there is the inevitable talk of ingratitude. Cakes and ale do not bind a son to decency or a daughter to purity. It is that subtle something which subsists in maternal care and fatherly love. |
