Show THE MILLS MEETINGS the readers of THE tim standard DARD are cognizant of the fact that what v hat are popularly known aa mills meetings arc are being held in this city these meetings are being carried on forthe for tho alleged purpose of arousing an interest in christian religious work ork and for that reason are to lio lie commended any agency which tends to elevate the moral and social tone of society and make men and women better should receive the hearty sanction of every citizen whether a subscriber to a sectarian religious creed or not we understand that these so called mills meetings aro are of a strictly nonsectarian non sectarian character being conducted by the ministers belonging to several religious denominations and we can conceive of no reason why any who feel interested and can spare the time to attend them thein should not do so and reap whatever of benefit and enjoyment are afforded by the services if the meetings ahall bo be productive of good no ono one will rejoice more sincerely than ban TUB tim standard DARD i v J we understand that a petition lias has been circulated among the business men of ogden asking them to close their stores and workshops next monday because of these meetings being held to that we make no objection if citizens feel that they can afford to indulge themselves in a holiday they have a perfect right to do so if they feel that in justice to themselves and their families they cannot afford to suspend their business they will ba perfectly justified in declining to comply with tho the request of our frie friends hols who are conducting the religious services it will not be showing in any disrespect for the cause of christianity if business shall bo be carried on as usual next monday nonday yet we know that the managers of tile meetings will feel gra gratified tilled and encouraged if there shall be even a partial suspension of business during a portion of that day we denounce the free wool bill as passed by the late democratic congress Cons Conr ress and demand that the wool schedules as now adjusted by the mckinley bill bo be maintained until such time as the increased production will meet the demands of homo home consumption UTAH republican |
