Show Surgical Operation. Opera-tion. Preformed by I)r' Wood-rinff Wood-rinff and LI ml ley O11 the Arm of Joseph Cee of .Moroni. A flue Piece of Surgery well Executed. I was born at Castle Hill, Bradbury, Chesire, England I emigrated to this Country Irom Oldham, near Manchester, Manches-ter, in June, 1874. Myself and family went direct to Dixie. After living there two years We. in 1876 rinved to San Pete, and settled at Moroni, here in the Spring of 1878, while plowing with a yoke ol steers, among the brush on new laud. On the contrary I suffered with it more or less.and never could work as well with it after that as I could before. On the morning ol June itth, 1SS8, it bej.in tj be very painful and it got worse, and from that day on it was very bad. I tried all kinds of remedies, but to no purpose; I visited two Doctors in San Pete, and in I lie Fall i went to Salt Lake City, to Dr. Anderson, who had made so good a surgical opperation and cure ol the lip and chin of my s n James; but I got no relief, then I tried two other Doctors in San Pete, and more remedies, also to no purpose, anu sunereo much all this time. Dr. Woodring expressed his opinion that the seat of the disease was near the bone in the joint, and early in March, 1889, he inserted an instrument to the bone which brought out pus so that I was sure that it would have to be cut, for we could 1101 get it to come to a head and break. On the 17 of March 18S9, the operation was perfotmed by Dr. Woodring, assisted by Dr. Lindley, in my own home. My arm was cut open, a slit nine inches long, the flesh was dissected from the bone washed iu boiling water and found to be decayed to the core, it was nects-sary nects-sary to cut away the disease portion or take off my arm, which the doctor I thought to be the best to save my life; but my wife would not consent, so the bone was sawn off i of an inch above the joint, and also inches below, and the bone joint with it taken from the arm, the opperation being done in thirty minutes. |
