Show THE SCHOOL ELECTION by far the largest vote vote polled in any school election in ogden city was that which was recorded yesterday and yet it was grossly insufficient neither of the parties cast its full strength but the greater inactivity was with tho the nonpartisan element and therefore the liberals were victorious in four out of the five wards much of this result is inexcusable cu sable in the first ward of course tho the nonpartisan non partisan cause was believed to bo be hopeless from tho the beginning and in the second tile case was extremely doubtful but in the fourth and fifth the non rion partisans had an ag aggregated gregal ted majority and if there had been no miserably fatal apathy both captain smith and mr watson would have been elected that these two gentlemen were defeated shows seriously the lack of interest energy and consideration which was displayed in ill this most important matter so far as the returns can indicate there js is nothing worse than apathy to be charged generally within the nonpartisan ranks wo we believe that in the main all parties who were pledged to 0 this movement voted the ticket the ae leading men of both the republican and democratic parties rendered all possible suppo support to tile mutual cause for instance in the third ward a strong liberal attack was made upon candidate dee one ground of tho tile complaint being that ho lie was a democrat but chairman leonard quickly issued a straightforward address to republicans iri invoking boking their most earnest assistance for mr dee he lie would have issued similar documents in the other wards if such had been asked or deemed necessary mr dec dee was elected and if the tile same systematic effort had been made to bring out voters in the fourth and fifth as was made in the third the next school board might have been under non hartigan partis an control the lesson taught by this election is divided into several chapters which the politicians would do well to study before again undertaking a n nonpartisan non on partisan movement it is unfair to nominate gentlemen for office and then bring to them a halfhearted half hearted support so far as the liberal party is concerned this school victory is full of dangers the outgoing out going administration has had the full hill confidence of the public and the incoming body and the liberal party which controls it will be held to a strict educational tion al interests must be carefully atra gu crded and addan advanced ced in ogden |
