Show Fertilizer From Volcanoes Tops of submarine volcanoes rising from extreme deeps in the lonely Pacific Pa-cific are now furnishing fertilizer for farms In Great Britain, Nuru and Ocean Islands, 105 miles apart and 2,200 miles northeast of Australia, are both being actively worked for phosphate. Each Island Is encircled by a coral reef on which is built a long steel traveling crane. The cranes carry the phosphate from the Island shores across the reefs and discharge It Into steamers anchored In the ocean outside. |
