Some time before the Selectman for that pat of the County had seen for himself the state of the road, aod yet nothing had been done to stop the nuisance and damage. What must our neighbors.north and south who wanted to tr avel the road and could not think of us, when they had to journey for miles out of their way! Wc are upholders of fair play and justice and consider that no matter how poorly settled or isolated any section of our county may be, that it is justly entitled to and should re-ceive a due and just proportion of the appropriations and be protected by our county officers, no matter whether a selectman's selfish interest arc antagonistic to the same or not. These are moving times and the people begin to speak and act and it is certain that they w ill not sub-mit to be unjustly and unfairly dealt with by their public servants. For that reason fully relying on the rectitude of the County Court, we would like to see that honorable body follow the example of the Salt Lake County officials and occasion-ally take a jaunt together and col-lectively examine the nooks and corners of our county and see for yourselves, giving justice to all--bi- g a nd little-si- ck and poor alike. Amos Quito. COUNTY OFFICERS. , That was a praiseworthy action of the Judge and Selectman of Salt , Lako comity, who, last week, took a jaunt toother and collectively ex-amined th i londitioa of the county's roads ati.l bridges. Other county: ofilciali nuy lear i a less jn from it. Iu S"me counties it ii thecustora to depute a selectman to take sole charge of a portion of the county and whatever lie may report or re-commend to the County Board it is generally accepted and acted upon. This sj stem opens the inducement for a selectman from one part of the county to "scratch the back" off of a colleague from another part o the same county. Again, when a selectman recommends an appro- - ' priation and has the sole disburse- - I ment of the same, it is to say the least, sometimes open to suspicion. . .,' , If he be an upright man he is liable ' to err in judgment, and if he be a ; dishonest man, it is an encourage 'ment for him to do wrong, This placing the people's interests 1 and money in the power of one man, subject to cither his error of judg-- ' ment, caprice, spite or self interest, is altogether wrong and should for ; ever be abolished, and as a remedy we give as an illustration the praise-wo- j h action 0 the County Board ot Salt Lake. We do not charge that any under ha:id or "One man" bossism is at-- . tempted in this county, altogether we uno'estand that thecaunty Prose-cution Attorney h ts been called up-on lately to investigate certain road scandals in the southern part of the county. Like an efficient officer that he is, he wen. to see for himself and found the county road running through the southern part of Dover, fm the west side of the Sevier river for oyer a mile flooded tvith water TR0GRES3. .
