Show SALT LAKE NEWS A change in sentiment on sugar the sheep bill the sugar bounty bill the fate of which is the subject of mu muck c speculation outside of legislative circles will iu in all probability pass the council the committee in it toe on judiciary to whom the measure was wait referred made a report this afternoon to the effect that they have hadtke had the same samo under consider consideration atio n and are of the opinion that since the law of 1890 appropriated a certain amount of money for the purpose already named the same should be given to the enterprises contemplated because no doubt the sugar fac factory tory established at lebi lehi was erected at great expense on tho the faith of the law of 1890 and tince alace the factory did not begin to produce until the year ye ar I 1 1891 the committee believed that the bounties already granted anted should I 1 be distributed through the tare two succeeding years the only substantial difference in this law and the one already ex is latino tin g is that in the event of a failure on the part of the factory tj ta manufacture an sufficient sugar in the year 1892 to secure the whole amount of money appropriated pria I 1 anted ted an opportunity will be afforded an fn in the year 1893 to manufacture sufficient sugar which will entitle the factory ito to a claim upon the whole amount at of money appropriated by the territory orv for that purpose that is to say the committee therefore recommended recommend td the passage of the bill A petition was filed stating that the present provisions of the statutes prescribe proscribe too short a time in which actions may be begun on an judgments notes contracts and running accounts creating many cases of hardship on the creditor and unnecessary co coats and expenses to the poor debtor the petitioners petition ers therefore ask for special legislation tor for their relief evana evans introduced a bill in the council today to day creating t the he office of attorney general and denning defining the duties thereof it authorizes the governor to appoint with the consent of the council a suitable p person erson learned in the law and who shall have been admitted to practice by I 1 I 1 the supreme court of the territory as I 1 att attorney ortley general for the territory he ile shall hold office for two years he is required I 1 to attend each of the terms of the supreme court and prosecute or defend on the part of the territory all causes to which the territory may be a barty party etc etc A neglect of the duties subjects ejects him to removal the salary is fixed flied at 2 2600 50 per annum representatives of those wool woi growers who are up in arms a against the proposed cheep sheep measure met in the A 0 V U W hall on west temple street at this afternoon to frame a series of resolutions protesting against the passage of the meagre and to forward the same to the governor I 1 delegations of wool growers have been arriving in the city all day and the local wool dealers and growers have been busy looking after their reception and entertainment tain ment each delegation was accompanied rattled by a petition containing a larl large ze list of against the measure all 11 of which were submitted to the governor this afternoon an adjournment was taken to the governors office where speeches were made by different representatives the town is greatly exercised over the matter and the action of the governor is awaited with intense interest |
