that thell the liberal beral pa party I 1 ty in weber was in excellent working order or der 1 and that therefore there was no need of ot electing a committee over the one already in office the names each such a distinction helas lie was still a libe liberal raland and bad had no desire to lee tee the party dissolved but either the liberals were drawing away from him or he was getting away from the liberal party he ile was in favor of the home rule bill now pend ipg in congress the divoll tion of the peoples party made an epoch in the history of this territory agrest A great change has taken place in utah and liberals must change to suit the times and put themselves in proper relationship with the new order of things captain smith then outlined the provisions of the faulkner gaine caine bill stating plainly its chief features and then continued by saying that the bill was drawn by persons who were as much interested in this territory as any one living he was in favor of of the bill because it be the very means of delaying statehood this was why he be had consented for it to be drawn and presented to congress the great danger to utah is statehood tho s speakers p proposition was to approach statehood slowly and cautiously and be he thought if the bill passed it would delay dejay statehood at least fix six years it is said this bill is an insult to the mormon people so have been all the measures against polygamy from the pol poland and bill to the edmunds tucker law this legislation was necessary and now legislation of a reconstructive character is required re aired and the faulkner gaine caine mea measure Is re reconstructive in its nature the government supported by the liberal party has gained victories in utah that should be the admiration of the nation captain smith said that he want the liberal party disbanded he also said that the home rule rate bill bad had been drawn in bis his office by bis his partner and that be he bad a draft of the original copy with him in his inside pocket and closed by saying that be he thought the convention should send a delegation from this county down to salt lake on the eth that would favor the passage of the bill there was no outburst of applause when the captain took bis his seat not even a hand baud clap disturbed the silence that followed till some one called for judge who responded saying that he felt modest in the presence of so many older liberals he lie regarded the fight made in utah by the gentiles as a fight against a form of elavery slavery the liberals bad had but bait ball won the fight in utah he lie was against the borne home rule bill thought the situation rood food enough as it is and that it therefore should be let alone W N shilling major L B stephens ar R 0 lundy don dan maguire
