Show CONTEMPT OF couff I 1 I 1 8 11 janis jarvis ordered to pay damages or bo be committed HE BE STITES THIT 1 BE SHALL REFUSE TO PIT li Is hi llella aas been personally sued for a bitter matter that pertains tal 4 the jarvis conklin company for some time past a snit suit has been pending brought by james pratt against the jarvia jarvis conklin mort mortgage gage trust company for damages alleged to have been sustained some time laet last bummer summer by plaintiffs wagon being knocked off the track by a motor As far as the version of the plaintiff plaint lil could be secured it ie Is as follows maloney perkins were engaged as att attorneys attorney s by pratt they brought brou glit a suit ait orned ia for r damages in justice perrins court A verdict was rendered against S 31 jarvis for the sum of and costs the now having reached the matter WAS taken to the first district court and referred back to the justices court dourt for execution mr jarvis refused to pay the amount A day or two ago be he was cited to appear before justice perrin where he was examined as to what property the company owned yesterday an order was issued from justice perrine perrins court to to the effect that mr jarvis should pay the damages and costs or in case care of failure to do so he should be committed to the county jail for contempt of court this order was served yesterday yesterday by officer belnap in or order er to ascertain the opinion of mr air jarvia jarvis on the subject and to obtain from him the statement aa as to what he inte intended to do in the matter a reporter called upon that gentleman at his office and put the questions to him 1 I haye have little it if anything to say regarding the matter said mr jarvis but I 1 most certainly do not intend to pay the judgment from my private purse and even if granting that the jarvis conklin mortgage trust company is liable for the damage damages I 1 sea see no reason in all law and equity why I 1 should be made to stand it t in n case the commissioner has hie his order carried out this may not be the last of the case darin during the orn examination I 1 was called upon the stand and asked nume numerous rons questions regarding the private business of my company which I 1 consider cons I 1 der improper as they bad had no bearing beating up upon on the case there may be some significance ance about the fact that corn com mission perrin is the attorney for the plaintiff in a case against he the street railway company al almost exactly the same as this one |
