Show SHADOWS OF A GREAT CITY sad was thanksgiving day this year to mrs mary jennings Jean ings of chicago her ber daughters lifeless body was taken out of the lake in hyde park that day nor waa was this the only grief that weighed upon the mothers heart she bad had scarcely fit clothing in which to prepare the remains for burial and no money to pay for the funeral expenses bat but her tear fear that her childs body would go 90 to a paupers haupers pau pers grave was atthe at the last moment removed bys by a benefactor who read of the case in the papers and sad ordered a firm of undertakers to make all needed arrangements the funeral which took place last bunday sunday was very touching no one was present but the devoted mother and the kindhearted kind hearted gentleman who had bad befriended her in her need an appeal bad had been bent sent to one of the christian churches to assist in a brief service eer vice but no one came the brave mother would not consent to a burial with no religious legious observance accordingly with only her benefactor and the onder undertaker der taker present she read a passage of the scriptures choosing a portion of the eleventh chapter ot of the gospel by john the story of christ comforting mary and martha at the death of their brother lazarus the touching narrative was read in a firm tone tome when the sentence 1 I am the resurrection and the life was reached thi th readers confidence was evident in her placid countenance then followed a heartfelt amen and the simple cervice was over |
