OFFERING not more than two weeks ago a lady suggested to too the superintendent of 0 the public schools that the children bring aa an offering for the poor of the city to be distributed on thanksgiving day every child was to bring as many apples or potatoes as they were years old the children were delighted with the idea but were not satisfied Batis fied to bring just potatoes and apples neither would they be limited in number bat but came trooping in with roast baet beef chickens turkeys hams bread cake I 1 canned fruit boney honey tea coffee crackers celery and vege vegetables ot of all kinds and of the very best beat quality money was given in all ol 01 the schools but the amount could not be ascertained as it has not all been paid in to the committee it was noted with pleasure that the majority of the donors were children of the earlier class clan of citizens who through their familiarity with the workings of their belief relief societies were in fall touch with practical charity of this kind their generosity genero one eity on the occasion of this no nonsectarian non sectarian an call was the more conspicuous since it is probable that through their own societies extraordinary calls are made upon them during this particular season of the year when the ladies of the ogden charitable association came to gather up the donations they engaged a job wagon thinking all could be taken in one load bat but were astonished labod and overwhelmed to find finland fin dand and there were ten tea wagon loads and it A took three thre men emen and several boys from 6 5 in the morning till eight in the eveni evening to deliver them the offerings were stored in the basement of the presbyterian church where thanksgiving services ser vicea were held hold the pastors of the dil different churches who were to take part in the services were invited down to view the childrens offerings and so kindly interested themselves that after the services a special collection was tak taken enand and nineteen dollars dollare in silver banded handed the ladies to replenish the treasury As the ladies of the association grasped each others hands and thought of the dark days of the past few weeks when the applications for aid had bad been increasing and the answers mast must be no money in the treasury such exclamations as always darkest before day and let us no never doubt gods providence the lord will provide were heard on all aides sides and eo so we say god bless the dear children with their bright enthusiasm I 1 and un unselfish elfish natures who delight to dive give to the poor and unfortunate and the only question in their hearts is larthy are they needy the one regret ol 01 the ladies is that they did not appreciate what the
