eville is gradually being built up for a long while it was impossible to get got any water on the ground but that defect has now been met by the davia davis and weber county canal work began on that canal in 1878 A couple of of years later a few people depending on that resource for water and thinking that it would be completed in a couple of years settled under onder the proposed canal there WM was no capital behind the movement the canal had to td be built by the muscle of those who were interested te in it for this reason the years drugged dragged on and on without ita its completion each year it was hoped that success would crown the efforts of the settlers and each year disappointment met them finally when despair had almost accomplished the min ruin of the settlements the canal was completed in 1888 the farmers rejoiced as the water came down to flood food their otherwise arid and lands that year a break occurred and again disappointment came the following year however they bad had all the water they wanted and the desert began to blossom thousands of trees were set out and crops began to be a sureta surety this year however it looked as i ii all the labors of twelve years would be lost in the latter part of july the water supply failed the canal has not the first right to the water and the upper ditches consumed all there was the tre trees es began to dry out and there seemed to be no help for it in this serious dilemma the upper ditches came to the rescue even to their own sacrifice the uintah Ri verdale and south weber irrigation companies declared that they would water up nicely and then turn their ditches into the canal for ten days in order to save their brethren down below on the ridge this was done the entire people of each company expressing their willingness to help when the ten days were up or shortly after when water was again needed a heavy rain came and the timely help bad had saved the results of many years hard labor thousands upon thousands of trees now adorning the sand bills hills would have been destroyed had this brotherly move not been taken too much cannot be said in thanks to the companies that thus aided in preserving servin such ch a larze large tract of farming land giaui abia s will be more apparent when it is stated that the directors of these companies have no right to give the water away for any length of time it was necessary to get got the consent of every stockholder in the companies compan iea and every man having a piece p bece isca 01 of land ill Is watered by those three canals is a stockholder the consent therefore in one of the most heated seasons seasonal is ia the more remarkable it is certainly an example which could be followed with profit by other irrigation companies in this or other counties thereby avoiding litigation and creating friendship and harmony among the various sections fw lions tho union trouble everything was quiet at the trust company building yesterday and there
