Show 1 giong OGDEN MINES I 1 practical prospector and nil miner in I 1 the field 1 mcg OX 01 THE WEBER it li doial lifted and deaver la a well canyon brighter prospect ihan than cier eier before in the th broadmouth district in spite of hot weather and the e u ull 11 beacon a crowing growing inter interest elit Is being ef dg manifested in the mining resources of this section the billa bills are full of croop prospectors e actors wor working kingin in all directions nort north hand and 1 northeast of ogden it Is three months since the real Es estate tate exchange and mining bureau turned their attention to the development of this most important industry enough has been accomplished dished 8 bince in ca then to convince the moat most inbred incredulous ill that there is mineral we wealth a it h I 1 in it the mountain ranges surround surrounding d I 1 ng oad ogden en those who contradicted t the he fact c I 1 last year are now more thor thoroughly ouch I 1 coren convinced t than ban the most enthusiastic I 1 it u el altic then there thre Is no section of the rock rocky K mountain country today to day chic which offers a brighter more expansive and favorable field for prop prospectors than the ranges north and east of ogden the country baa has never been thoroughly explored the mineral belt of which park city is the centre extends through this range and by a close observation of the trend of the formation one can readily see that the mining problem is one easily solved there seems to be a break in this immediate vicinity and asyet but few good mines have been been opened or so much BO so as to form an eta idea of the formation the mining in a these foothills cannot be a success the formation is too badly broken up and decomposition III nand and transformation has caused the hills to lose their bearing and mineral if any is deep there is a time comine coming however when capital will find it possible to peW penetrate these mountains to its mineral dep depth th and find good paying ore cheva the varied ried iron stains and manganese croppi indicate that the ground is thorough nys y mineralized bat but to what depth there are now about men in the hills prospecting and mining ining and n as many more are preparing g to get out by the first of the month in the broadmouth and wolf creek districts therease there ther eare are about forty miners miners projecting and working c claims four your very promising prospects have ath already demising been en opened up all of which h show allow a sufficient amount of mineral to warrant continued do development v elo ment the formation is quartzite a and nT shale heavily impregnated in the cap rock with oxide of iron and manganese in this formation be the indication indi catian is considered a good showing the formation is is regular and the reins veins are perpendicular on the opposite of the valley is situated what is known as the chicken creek district the formation here is different the veins having an incline of about 30 degrees from here to the north a distance of ten miles to the black pine mountains and cottonwood hollows the veins thus far discovered are more regular and carry more or less galena with fair ind indications of carbonates carbon aies in the form of talc tale or carbonate of lead the ore has been assayed and found to contain 43 ounces of silver ilver per ton and so 30 per cent lead tho the entire ogden valley country Is to thoroughly mineral said and in almost every ever instance the cropping is entirely devoid of a mineral 1 10 era showing after going through the cap rock a distance of eight and ten is feet et the mineral begins to show and the vein becomes more regular ore was brought down from the dolphin claim this week which is a promising property on the north ridge of N wolf oil creek the rock is a pure quartz carrying steel galena with decomposed pockets of chlorides and black the rock very much resembles the surface of the ontario at park city assays essays of the rock has given returns ot of 42 ounces silver 32 per cent lead and two dollars in gold it is owned by maxwell white and perkins ns the average of the surface rock in this district is from 23 in silver to 80 30 per cent lead this is a ver very bright brigt outlook when it is confide considered re that as yet none of the claims have over ten loot feet of work done upon them in this region three different streams South fork middle fork and north fork take their rise thus forming ogden river in the bade of 0 these bulc es are found fine specimens of float rock indicating th that larga large veins of ri rich rih h ore exist everywhere in the district this float shows that in the same locality t ar are 0 large deposits of lumbago plumbago and antimony also large arge deposits of graphite exist the formation is a queer one and to a practical eye is puzzling ling lot but indication of a it rich mining region la in the chicken creek district two very promising mines aro are being opened by hermitage abbott and others they have reache I 1 a depth of over twenty feet on their claims their rock is of an auriferous nature having every indication of 01 being very rich in gold as well as silver the vein is large and has well defined walls of granite and quartzite several other parties have located kroepe prospects c to here and all are sanguine over ter th their air value A well ell posted mining man is authority for the statement that in every particular the prospects are more encouraging in III this locality on the surface than they were in the park city or c country when they were eCret arst opened the formation is regular the strater stratas follows following u 9 the mineral veins are more m a uniform m and the ground less broken up than anywhere else in this country e sera crout maguire campbell and blair of this city are owners of some fine prospects in chicken creek flom from which they have taken good ore A number of ogden me men are putting in good time prospecting in the range south of huntsville where it Is rumored that some rich float rock has his been found by some of old reel real dents there if it the vein Is found that produces the chloride rock said to 11 have avs been found there it will at once settle bottle the problem of our future destiny as a mining country barney west ivest ed fd ionek ano and two experienced experience colorado mining men have located in horse gulch and are re looking patiently for bior the bonanza they have located a number of claims in the vicinity and S are e confident that they have borne some bood good mineral mr 11 e r and hla his co cooperators operators have h a good mine in the ellch near Wina lows place witch which has s as a very fine showing of carbonate ore below Win windows slows alace is the copper queen owned b mr iloff of ogden ile e has a vein a a I 1 four our feet wide showing fine floe looking silver ore heavily kd coated copper fe the rock conf adne considerable black ox ida pyrites of copper and carbonate wort about 20 per r t ton on i in n eliv silver r A crosscut cross cut t tunnel ia is bein being g run from from the foot 0 of f t the he bill to tap the vein at a depth 0 of i f fifty feets feet sev several oral other claims on both bid bides of t the he canyon are being operated with good results the writer had bad the pleasure of a tig via it to the famous alfred and denver mines owned by geo So seagers agers can ingham and others very few people in ogden realize the value of these claims and we doubt it if any think for a moment the importance of a real rich mine almost in eight of the city the alfred vein beyond any doubt has a bright future before it at and id when properly worked and backed by capital will open the eyes of the ogden people the vein has three locations which loll 1011 loup P the in a the form of a mule shoe oboe around the canyon the vein is a blanket flat formation on the south side of the canyon the denver location covers a portion n of that side of the gulch while three more locations cover the loup loop which crosses the gulch about a mile above the old war powder works on the north side do of the gulch the vein yein is visible again but lower in the formation most all of the work done this season has been prosecuted on the denver deaver the first location on the south ibis work shows a vein of from ten inches to tour four feet in width the hanging and foot walls are limes limestone tons carrying a seam or gangue four inches thick of perfectly honeycombed quartz an in indication that goes far toward the credit of the vein the ore is galena eso cited with a heavy sand band carbonate abend and in places and chlorides chloride are found they have done considerable work in different places along the vein and in every in instance the ore is the same improve improving dg with every foot of development we are informed that mr beazer has been offered for his property but refuses the tho amount holding bis his price at to a com company pan y of mining men who have the necessary amount of capital to prosecute work on a systematic basis this is a nominal sum all ail mr seager seeger lacks is the necessary nece esary amount of capital to make a mine of it himself for or allot all of which good fortune be he is justly entitled to the denver and alfred will yet astonish ogden people by weir production A good deal of attention is being maidat paid at present to the weber canyon country as well as ogden canyon several t times me e during the past w week belt reports have come to town of new strikes and more especially the opening U up p of new now country heretofore unknown two parties of prospectors from montana Mo ritana claim to have found the park city mining belt an I 1 have found the outcrop of the same class of ore found in the ontario it BO so much resembles the ores of that district that assayers at the marsac mill can hardly distinguish between the two samples up the south dorkof fork of tb the e weber are several ogden parties now working and prospecting claims the ore Is decidedly different from that found in the ogden valley country a and n d it if anything is to a freer milling class of rock the formation in every respect is different i e blue granite being the wall formation for true fis fissures eureal and sandstone and porphyry the formation of flat veins or deposits the mountains are much higher and more rugged and not so accessible as the mountains on the north sije side of the belt before fill fall we may look for some astonishing developments from ibis part of the country there are about shoat thirty prospectors in the park city belt and it is understood that the ex lert part sent bent here to report on the formation of the webar country reported d favorably to a california company and they are sending men out to prospect for mines don maguire and mr BIT campbell are working steadily on the trail they are building up tho mountain to t their heir claim abbit eight miles north of town plainly visible straight out washington avenue in the big gulch running up the mountain they have confined their efforts to the file building of a difficult trail when this has been accomplished they will look after the mine and possibly be able to make a shipment of ore this fall the claim Is to a good one and shows a fine body of ore which will almost pay to ebia sh ip now there are other claims in the same locality but they are owned by a class of men who brel barely y do enough work to bold hold them them under the mee assessment law at present there are working in ogden mining district about men and the outlook is a hopeful one to who woo are directly interested A great deal of quiet work is going on in all directions and parts of the country which will certainly result in some good when the proper time co comes me a several california mining men have been here recently examining some mining claims near the city they come quietly and go away as mysteriously they all carry away good opinions pinio 13 a of the cou country and pose possibly ably are Ins instrumental trumen ta I 1 in sending out parties to prospect and explore the country they stake their claims or examine the property but no report goes to the general public all allot of which is well enough until some immense treasure is found or more than the everyday discovery will turn the e eyes Y es of the world to the very rich find and nd also to the millions of tons of low grade ores that lie ile in the hills about us |
