show that they are not prepared to say which shall take the precedence the of not being under obligation to moneyed corporations or the desire to receive a paes one of the gentle gentlemen filen said though probably in a jocular manner barton if you did not inept that the tile bill go into effect until utter after the tile clore of this session I 1 would vota vote tor for the b bill it 1 I abott or er expected to voe vole for the measure act amire but would also like the pass one of the tile members stated yesterday yent YeAt erday that when a prominent official was approached fur for a paw by two or three gentlemen then working among the pubic public institutions for their benefit benefi tp they were told that the companies expected to get value received for what they gave in coming coining down on the train tills this morning morn int an attorney intimately associated with one of tl alie le railways was aboard the talk turner turned on the subject of ss as the conductor came round tor for the tickets alida aud aa as a matter of course it soon own reached the bill prohibiting the tile companies from issuing basses asses to public officials and the latter from receiving ceiling them one of the gentlemen ell present held that the companies exi 0 I 1 ia 1 peeled 0 to o get favorable favor Ms leg isolation for what hatt they gave the the attorney held field different he lie faid raid that all the companies wished to get waa was immunity from hostile ostile li legislation if they did lid not vive passes they could not expect the thO legislators to do what wa was right in the matter though he lie cave no reason why such should bo be the caie cake cai e or any proof where such had proven tile case lie finally committed himself so far ag as to eay say that the railway companies did not wish to pay euch such high taxes and arid that they were igind to pay them even though unreasonable borea in emory emery county tad raid this attorney tie tle railroad company pays seven tenths of the taxes now we give pa pases ses BO so we shall not have to pay such taxes you legislators vote yourselves into office and then tax the railway companies to pay these taxes you raise your salaries or of oilier other officer officers and we have to pay forit it passes are given because they should be given and I 1 dont think that you ought to refuse them even stronger language was used by this official w while hile at the same time he ile stated that the remark of a prominent railroad man in fact a superintendent perin should not be a criterion in judging whether the tile companies expect any favors in return for what they gave it was the opinion of those present at his this discussion some wine of 0 I 1 thein legia acore that passes were ere given for what was received and that often times much more was paid pal d for them than would be paid if the tickets were purchased by the tile individuals who ito received them and the tile territory had to pay for it
