Show ACCIDENT A train ditched on the ho utah and northern I 1 i HO LSD KILLED the Eligi ater ky by falling failing hit late a BI role Dituri pilos et ot the Ite malai of t the wreck id other items BOISR baler CITY crry idaho sept construction train on the utah and northern road wag was wrecked yesterday the rhe fireman and one laborer were were fatally ft tall injured the above ia Is all that the wires give of the following dreadful accident A utah northern work train with engine no dad hughes engl rear fireman not known but lately from rom texas and She aaby conductor w with ith six cart cars three of 0 steel and three of ties and a caboose was wrecked about 2 thursday afternoon at a 11 P point about three miles this side 0 of mccammon besides best des the men above mentioned there were two bacan and ad two tramps who not an hoar boar before had bad been hired to go to work on the widening of the road the point where the wreck occurred was the switch where the new broad gauge leaves the line and takes off to avoid avold a ball hill the engine left the rails rolls at this switch next to it were the three cars care of steel which crashed into it tearing off the tank ank t at this I 1 in a start the fireman jumped and was caught under the tank and dragged until the engine which waa was turned completely around toppled averon over on ita its side of course the poor fellow was killed being mangled in the most moat shocking manner the engineer w who ho had kept his hand on the throttle until his engine was overturned was save saved dirom from death by being thrown into a bole hole from which be he was in a few moments able to mike make his escape the cars weve none ot of them overturned but all were terribly a smashed mas bed the material with which they were loaded was thrown to either side of the track in the debris one of the tramps was found dead a piece of steel having crushed a great hole in his forehead d the other tramp was wai badly brai bruised sed his hips being crushed in and at last r reports e was not expected to survive the bea tb I brakeman bad his right ankle broken and an ugly hole cut in the calf of his leg by a p ece of timber the conductor was not hurt the conductor went bick back to me BIC gammon cammon and telegraphed for assist ance which come coma from both thatcher and pocatello the first thing to meet their gaze on returning to the me spot was the mangled remains of the firemen one of tha the party undertook to lift the body and found to bis his horror that it was headless further examination revealed that the backbone was stripped of flesh though not was broken the entire satire stomach and abdomen domsa ab from the thighs to the ribs was totally gone A short latance da de tance away the lower jaw bone was found and clinging to it the right ear A piece of the scalp and the other I 1 jw a w were found in another spot off course the poor fellows death wa was instantaneous the railroad men ment who have been on the road for upwards of twenty years I 1 declare that they never saw so no horrible a eight sight nor a train so completely knocked to pieces about four hours later while the wrecking party were going to sapper supper to thatcher Tb atcher a elation station on the new line ibis this side of mccammon the engineer through having what Is called a false throttle lost control of the engine which plunged ahead and with three cars care ran off the track no one fortu forta bately was hurt the same day above mccammon another engine and a car or two ran tall off the track but here as in ha the other case no one was hurt passengers who were detained twenty two hours by tho the first described wreck and who reached this city last evening furnished most of the foregoing detail details they desire THE toz STANDARD to express in their behalf their appreciation of the kind nees of conductor char charley ley young who with bis his assistants did all in his pa power to make their disagreeable halt comfortable |
