Show aw A CLUE w JT vf f SALT LAKE CITY 3 mav 22 so 0 esq do a r S 8 I 1 r I 1 write not jonly to thank you for your kind attention to my re request est made la in a it former loiter letter but to gorm inform you a of the certainty and celerity with 0 7 which letters are sometimes delivered passing between ogden and this city your x our acknowledgment of receipt ot mine was dated april alst and postmarked st both ogden and bialt lake city same aa date te it was delivered to me from froin this office on yesterday juat just ona na month detained in this tiff office ice and during that time there hae has not been to exceed three day days at any one lime time that my letters have not been called for permit me therefore at this late date etc etc your ardent well wisher SW this is not the only instance in of the kind that hae lifts come to our knowledge for souie some time time past we have been troubled to get letters by mail from ogden delivered promptly in salt lako lake city nine cases of the sort described in the above letter have occurred with in two months out of a total of perhaps fifteen letters cent sent from ogden by the editor of this paper in some of these nine cases the dc de lay jay has not been more than four or five days A few common facts in relation to these delays are note worthy out oat of the nine instances referred to in seven cases the en velores boro bore the legible post mark and salt lake city with the dale date ortho of the day upon which the letters were respectively mailed from ogden in the two remaining ing cases the postmarks were not legible this would go to show that the letters detained left the ogden office and were stamped by the receiving clerk in the salt lako lake post office it would therefore OP aps pear near that the delay must have been occasioned by or seizure in the salt lake post office eight out of nine of the letters d delayed e were directed to mormons and the envelopes all bore the return stamp odthe of the HERALD editorial department letters to gentiles in salt lake city bearing the same ret return urn card have in no binale instance been delayed for a it day if the salt lake postmaster will go the bottom oft of these liese irregularities with due caution ho he will doubtless find that some one or more of his employees are in the habit of in ad verdantly delivering I 1 certain mail to fo a spotter for inspection before permit permitting per lih it to reach the bands of the parties to whom it is I 1 addressed |
