mans character were calef carefully u lly pointed out secretary A T wright read reports from the following wards harrisville eden eden and the fourth ward ogden the reports showed that the associations ciati ons in the county are now in good rood working order much interest in the meetings on the part of the young men is exhibited a cause for congratulation on the part of the officers ELDEK ELDER RODNEY BADGER bad had been much interested in the pro gramme rendered durina during the day if it is an average pro gramme showing what the young men of the weber stake can do they certainly are to be envied the quist questions ions treated upon today to day are stoper ones for the young men to be exercised upon the proper study of man is man but in considering this question it is necessary for us to inquire into every condition and phase of life above all things morality and intelligence should be cultivate cultivated 4 in n order that we may reap advantages which come afterpe aft erve pass away it studying this subject our minds extend beyond this life to that life which we had prior to coming here and then passing along it reach over this life into the eternities if all we had to live for wae was what we receive here hero we could sum it up and the balance would be against this life forve for we find in this life more t that hat brings trouble than there is that brings joy but it is the fact that we will live hereafter that stimulates us and causes us to labor for our future good no man does an honorable and just action hero that he will nut not receive the reward for hereafter we must prepare ourselves now for the life which is to come if we do not take tins this course we will be outstripped by those who have improved their opportunities the speaker desired to call the attention of the young people to one very important step in in life the selection of a partner Inthis in this matter we are altogether too slack in ancient days the days of abraham parents selected partners for their jonsland sone sons land and daughter erf why was this it was because the parents knew that the families from which the selection should be made were righteous and that their children united in matrimony would baiso an honorable posterity there was no haphazard match in those daye days but now marriage marr iare is consi considered deren a lottery we are not yet educated apato that old time condition of affairs failing falling to approach even this we should a at least try and keep within certain limits selections of partners outside the covenant should not be made conformed to ibis requirement we then must take into consideration the means of being united in the sectarian world men and women are united for this life only after death will alwy still be united this ii in a serious question ie Is this sufficient clent to satisfy us are we willing to rest contented with the knowledge that our dear ones after tho the resurrection can baye have a no claim upon us nor can we have any claim upon them justices odthe of alio peace ju judged mayors and some ministers of 0 the goabel cap I 1 have only the power to marry arr for ti time e Is there authority u upon on the face of the face of the earth which can cement the ties between husband hue band wife and children eo so that they will endure throughout eternity 1 if it eo so that power and authority she should be invoked by young people when they desire to become man and wife e if the young people thoroughly understood der stood this matter they would never desire to be united except under that authority that authority which not only makes them husband and wife here but husband and wife throughout eternity still men may claim to have this authority when they h have it not this difficulty may be b obviated by however if we have been living asgood as god requires of ourselves we can determine without a doubt whether a man who clans to hold this authority really has it or not wo we cannot afford offord to be thinking that all ia is well that we have nothing iffa r 1 to do for our future welfare this life ie a only a preparatory one to the hereafter we come upon the earth and take upon ourselves responsibilities mid and we are taught that we are the sons eons and daughters of god if It tills till ie to 0 then if we are faithful when we come to our majority will we not be aa as our our father is these are questions which are cital in their importance tance they are profitable for us to reflect mr hect upon god hae has given unto ue us our agency and if wo we neglect to use our intelligence he ile will bold hold ue us accountable may god help ue us to live right to understand our positions and perform the duties required of us in a macher pleasing to him con ELDER W B S BURTON addressed the congregation gation he ile called attention to congregation conge abe t a necessity for each one to have a direct aim and object in life we all claim that we are here for the specific purpose of serving god some of us keep thie this fact before ue us while others are more negligent some of ua us think the lord nel is not crowding us very closely and therefore we will put off some of our duties there is only one road of safety forus for ua we have god that we would consecrate our lives for forthe the good of his ilia kingdom yet some of us have probably jorgon ten our promise we are all weak andev and even if we had conr elivea to live over again it is questionable whether wo we would do any better our god has his eiven given unto us a certain mission he ile has said distinctly that his ilia kingdom is not of this world the temptations of the young are very strong parent parents should bo be careful of their children they should know where their offs offspring prina aro are and 11 hould also bo be careful of encouraging them in any pernicious practices parents are more or less responsible for the bad habits of their little ones none of us should use language which we would be ashamed for mether mother or sister to hear let parents examine themselves and probably they may mend their lives a little the object of mutual improvement associations is to learn the members things pertaining to the gospel of christ that they th may be fitted to be citizens of the T kingdom I 1 m g in of god we should be acquainted with the thi events of the present day and study them careful carefully ay still we do not want to live on bread alone we want to become acquainted with all good things let us study them in a systematic manner that we can comprehend them thoroughly ELDER JOS JOB A WEST heartily endorsed the instructions received during the conference there has been a marked improvement made among the young people there Is still room for further improvement however notwithstanding the proficiency fici ency attained in many branches of improvement still more atten attention tio n is needed in the matter of personal purity everything which we do in life has a beating upon our future welfare our young people should be careful to form alliance alliances that will advance their present interests and ensure their future happiness evil associations should bo be shunned if we would avoid transgression wo we must manifest a faith in the saying prin prins caples of the gospel we mut must learn the lesson of obedience and seek to perform honestly every duty that is required of us the young men should attend punctually their priesthood meetings that they may obtain a full fall appreciation of the authority of the priesthood and learn how to ex the power given unto them the following brethren were called to act as missionaries during the ensuing elx six months P C stephenson west harrisville Harri eville reuben
