minari 1 eai were disposed dispo eed of and anti the tile following foll PETITIONS were listened to by the council eight citizen citizens resident in the southeast part of the town requested the privilege of working out their poll tax at a certain point contiguous to their own residences referred to the committee on street streets with power to act J D malan made application for the position of city sexton petitioner represented that he has been a resident of ogden city for thirty years and ie is conversant with the duties of a it sexton referred to the committee on public grounds through george F warren secretary the knights of labor invited the mayor and members of the city council to attend the reception in the pavilion Pavil fou last evening on the motion of alderman boyle bolle the invitation was accepted joaeph joseph dark clark proprietor of the ogden steam mills mille asked a readjustment of his city taxes in con odthe of the great lots he recently sustained stained au referred to the committee on claims mr joseph dark clark chief affire of fire department called the attention of the council to the necessity for placing at once hydrants on the corner of seventh and smith streets end on the corner of sixth and pearl streets that portion of the city is inadequately protected against fire there beningno being no avail able water for one pump mr clark lark alo also recommended that six hydrants h be purchased and placed in in position as the water maine mains are extended referred to the committee on water supply REPORTS mr boyle of the committee on ou fire department called attention to the necessity of the hydrants being properly attended to they are in a bad condition and should be cleaned out at least once a month at a recent fire there was so much mud in the hydrant that when it was first fira t opened the water could not run the recommendation was adopted a and the matter was left in the hands bands arf of a committee for attention alderman eccles said aid the water works are in good working order the hydrants are attended to but probably one or two of them have been overlooked councilor driver of the corn com cittee on streets reported work doue done on fifth street between and smith good progress is being made and a good job is being done the tramway is being be ing I 1 pushed along as rapidly as possible I 1 with the means at the disposal of I 1 the committee in a few days j fifth street will bo be reached and the tramway will shortly thereafter be in operation the committee has devoted much time to the consideration of the petition of A 11 nelson and others to open streets in the south part of the city almost everybody concedes that the streets should be opened but the property owners most interested ask so go large a price for the land necessary that the committee does not feel justified in the present condition of the finances of the city in recommending that the expenditure necessary tobe I 1 made if the streets are opened the report was accepted and a nd on motion of mr boyle the cammi committee tte e was ignatiu sted to find out the actual cost of the improvement and report the amount to the Cou council neil councilor folker of the committee on public ground grounds reported favorably on the petition of H E keeler for the purchase of a piece of city land the report was accepted councilor rich of the sanitary Committee eaid that several obnoxious pg pig pens polls bad been remo removed ved at the instance of the police mr rich still complained of the dereliction of the merchants in the busine buei s portion of the city in in kel keeping their premises free from bubbis he lie therefore recommended that an ordinance be passed requiring every person to keep the loose paper and rubbish from bis his premises in in a covered receptacle the report was accepted and the recommendation adopted councilor lor boyle reported that the recorders account had been audited and found faund correct BUSINESS
