Show ACCIDENT A little bor killed by seven year old this mornings salt lake herald contains the following account of a tearful tragedy which occurred n the capital yesterday ethan alien pettit a 9 year old son ot mr ethan pettit who re aidea on tho jordan met with a terribly sickening accident yesterday and which resulted in his death about two and one half hours after the occurrence it seems from what could be gathered from tha lips of the unfortunate child before he breathed his last that ho went into a bedroom in company with his younger brother and tho baby of the house leaving his mother in the room adjoining there were a couple of loaded shotguns in the room and ethan took up one of them and extracted the shells from it he then set it down and in a second or two picked it to be up a gun supposing the one from which he had taken the cartridges and handing it to his little brother ira who is only 7 years of age told him to snap it at him the child did as requested and both barrels were discharged into ethans body just above the left hip tearing a hole a foot along from which hid bowels were protruding on the floor when ahn horrified mother came into the room the walls were be spattered with blood for a height of several feet and the window panes alino immediately behind the child were blown to atoms dr benedict was imm mediately summoned from the fisher brewery where he had been to attend th e young man who mutilated his fingers and was soon in attendance upon the unfortunate child he saw at a clance however that tho victim was beyond earthly aid the bowels being bakly riddled in place again and soon had the sufferer as comfortable as it was possible to make him but he died as stated above he was not in much pain being partly under the ot chloroform but was conscious of his surroundings and said to bis weeping and soul stricken mother never mind I 1 wont die ill be all right when the doctor comes the little fellow who had pulled the triggers at tho request of the victim stood by hia side as the life of his brother ebbed away seemingly entirely unconscious of the awful act that had been committed the unfortunate boy ia described by those who knew him aa being bright and intelli gent for hia age he could not have been more than six feet from the muzzle of tha gun which was loaded with heavy charges of pow der and duck shot |
