Show held over 4 this afternoon E johnson was examined before his honor T D deajon the charge of grand larceny committed by stealing clothing from the store of M Gedar on fifth street during the night of the dinst from testimony ot the witnesses defendant on the same night was inquiring for the house of mr studer defendant found the place and asked air studer who had made the tanco of defendant while in the saloon business to loan him la vas lise mr giuder consented but asked him to leave the clothes till the next evening and in the mean time gave to the po lice defendant was arrested on the morning of the by marshal johnson offered no evidence neither did he ask any questions ions he was held to await the action of the grand jury with bail in the sum of 1000 in des fault of furnishing bail he was corn bitted to the care of he U S marshal johnson is to all appearances a notorious character he is of medium height and is well built his lace displays a number of scars and presents generally a forbidding aspect he was very reticent this afternoon and toyed with his hat the whole of the time the examination was in progress and when booken to he answered with as few words as possible a vindictive look gleaming from hii ifould only be been occasionally as ho gazed intently at the floor during the whole of the proceedings |
