| Show THE TRANSFER it is understood that the united states deputy marshals are about to transfer their headquarters from salt lake city to ogden this has anticipated been for some time and no one is taken by surprise aa far as those officials confine themselves to the performance of their duties in a proper manner they will not be troubled in this city judge powers will be hero in a few days and the court will open less there will be a few alleged polygamists indicted at least some cases of alleged unlawful cohabitation will probably come before the court in duo season this has been expected as a mats ter of course but all that the deputy marshals can do in this neighborhood will not amount to much when are properly armed with authority and seek to make any arrests or serve any papers or perform any of the legal and proper funchious of their official character they will meet with no opposition no threats and ro violence the people of ogden know the mission of these official gentry who lutt fees and create as much misery as possible among the people therea fore we feel certain that any of our citizens who may come in contact with the depauly marshals will take good care not pass the proper line of their duty wo bei that judge powers will not join in alie unhallowed schemes of the local anti mormon official rabble we have reason to hope that he will be humane wise considerate si merciful and just and that he will not disgrace the bench aa judge Za of personal and rancor thus far the raid on salt lake city has proved a miserable failure it has barren of any results favorable to the anti Mormon cause with all the noise and bluster which the anti have indulged in there has been only a solitary conviction on the charge of polygamy and something like half a dozen have been convicted of unlawful cohabitation or pleaded guilty of that charge since accusation in these cases has practically amounted to conviction under judge zano it is yet to be seen how judge powers will act but it is reasonably certain that he will not imitate the big headed fanatical and maliciously inclined chief justice at all aventa whatever his ruling may be the anti mormon movement will amount little in ogden and in transferring their headquarters efrom salt lake city to this place the deputy marshals will be a little disappointed if we are not mistaken |
