Show POLITICS LIVELY IN MASSACHUSETTS Postou, Oct. 2 Tbe principal game to be played in Massachusetts this week is that of politics. Democratic und Republican delegate will gather here Thursday to to select standard-bearers standard-bearers for the November election, wtlle congressional conventions will also be held In the fourteen districts. Governor Draper and four state officeholders office-holders will be renominated at the Republican convention. Attorney General Dana Malone retires to private pri-vate practice, but there Is no opposition opposi-tion to District Attorney James M Swift of Fall River for the ssth place on the state ticket. Harmony is expected to prevail. That the Democratic convention, which meets at the same time In Faneull hall will be less tranquil was generally conceded today, as there are three well known candidates for the gubernatorial nomination, and two or three others who are desirous of running for lieutenant governor. The Massachusetts Democrats have never appeared s confident of victory vic-tory us this year. Ijist weeks primary election did ' not settle the fight between former Senator James II. Vahey of Water- town. Congressman Eugene N. Foss of Boston and former Assistant Secretary Sec-retary of the Treasury Hamlin, also . of Boston. All three have expressed , a desire to lead the party this year. I although Hamlin and Vahey have j been a trllle more ardent in their ! pursuit of delegates than Mr. Foss. Both parties will select the remaining remain-ing eleven congressional candidates within three days, but the Republican Fourth district convention is the only one attracting attention. The two candidates, Harry h. Pierce- of Leo-' Leo-' ruinator nnd "William II. Wilder of Gardner, are s(-H claiming" a mnjority of the delegates chosen at Wednesday's Wednes-day's primaries. |
