R. club and their friends took an Imaginary trip hctosh the continent con-tinent to New York City laxt evenlnp, this being the flrft lap of tho long Journey which will land them in the Holy I..tnd. It was a personally conducted tour under the supervision of Kev Frederick Freder-ick V. Fisher, pastor of First Method Meth-od st church, and no railrvad official was ever more Interested In his company's com-pany's patrons or solicitous for the welfare of the passengers In his charge Every point of Interest en route was bronchi to the attention of the youthful Rlobe-trotters by the tour manager and his assistants, and In J spl'o of the fact that the company j changed cars three times between Or- den and New York, not one passenger j was left behind. I The youngsters were in total Ik- I noiance of what was to take place I ether than that they were coins to New Y'ork city Arriving jt the Methodist Meth-odist church, they were placed on board the Rapid Transit company's cars and transported to the Union depot de-pot There marked up on the blackboard black-board were the words, "D. O. R. special spe-cial 15 minutes late." Some of the youthful travelers be-K:in be-K:in to regard the affair rather seriously serious-ly wh-n a train caller unnounced that the IJ. O It. special was waiting on track No tj, but the whole party left the depot and found three passenger coaches on the track indicated. The pussencers were met by a colored porter, por-ter, wlni assisted them on board the first car and, arter each had been supplied sup-plied with a folder showing the proposed pro-posed route, everything was ready for the Journey. At this point Rev. Fisher produced three or lour yards ol railroad ticket properly made out for New York city, and the genuine alarm of several ol the company became manifest. Several Sev-eral of the youngsters wanted to tele-phono tele-phono their parents before starting on the long journey, while others thought they had better not attempt tb0 trip Their fears were allayed by the tour manager. The trip was a most delightful one. The Itinerary Included Denver, Kan-fas Kan-fas City, St. Iouls, Chicago, Washington, Washing-ton, Philadelphia and finally New Y'ork city. The party was forced to chango cars twice during the Journey, and the chance consisted in passing from one coach Into another. Everything incident inci-dent to a railroad trip was In evidence, evi-dence, with the possible exception of the rumble of the wheels whirling over the rails. After a sight seeing trip around New York the first lap of the Holy Land Journey was declared at on end nd the young travelers returned to their lorues. The next stugo of the Journey wlll be made by steamship across the Atlan'ic. This will take place at a Inter date. It was one of the most unique entertainments en-tertainments ever carried out in this city, and the youngsters spent a delightful de-lightful evening in the care of Rev. Fisher and his assistants. The pastor feels very grateful to Itepot Master Shields for his able assistance In making mak-ing the affair a success. |
