It Is understood that the matter of opening this street Is already in tho courts, and in fact has been for some time, some of the property owners having protested against the closing of tho narrow road which was In Ihre at one time. This road was closed by a clly ordinance, which will nt-respltate nt-respltate the passing of another ordinance ordi-nance before the street can heopenvd. The city council and tho rnllro.nl officials will rnec-t again In the near future for another conference on tho matter, when some action will probably prob-ably be decided upon. CONFERENCE 0(1 OPEMGJIKCOLN Members of the city council mot with several of the Rio Grando officials offi-cials yesterday afternoon and a trip was made to the site of the proposed extension of Lincoln avenue from Twentyflrst street to Twentieth street. The ground was gone over thoroughly thorough-ly and tho matter was dl.xcusKed to a considerable length, without, however, any definite decision being made. More time is desired by the railroad officials to coiinider the matter, as their Interests are involved to the extent ex-tent of installing a crossing at tho Intersection of their tracks and the proposed extension of the street. Will Not Extend to River. The general opinion appears to be j that tho new street will necessitate the construction of an additional bridge over Ogden river. This is not the case, however, the contemplated extension only reaching as far as Twentieth street, while the river, is some distance further north. I There is little doubt but that tho 1 opening of this street would soon bring about the necessary acitatlon for a further extension, carrying the street across thy river and on to Seventeenth Sev-enteenth street or farther, thus furnishing fur-nishing the lower part of the city with a direct means of communication with the fair grounds as well as providing |
