In tho following article ar-ticle Jeff tells tho secret. Here Is Jeff'ts own btory: (By jim Jeffries) I have not Keen a knocker out for the simple reason 1 havo never found It necessary to knock my opponents clean out to gain a victory, excr-pt on one or two occasions. Even In a fight I believe .t man can be humane, and U the same results can bo obtained without endangering your opponents life, then I think It Is 'better for nil. It is true thai most of my opponents have been counted out, being helpless mid unable to continue the battle, yet they hu.e remained conscious. The fact that I have not knocked my men out In a few rounds like most fighters does not mean that I have been unable to finish my victim sooner thnn I did W'ere I to put all the strength and force at my command in an effort to land a knockout blow I feel suro that I would do considerable damage 1 honestly believe that If I had hit any of the men that I fought with all the force possible I would have killed them. Does Not Use Full Strength. I kuow my strength perfectly well and In none of my fights have 1 been required to try to do my besL I prefer pre-fer to win my battles on scientific Hues, and that Is tho reason I havo allowed my fights to last so long. 1 know I ntu scientific enough to beat down all these clever boxers. Were I simply depending upon my strength to win fights then I would have to resort to different tactics and would be more anxious to win In a hurry. I am satisfied to win my battles on points and It makes little dlft'ereuco to me whether the contest goes the limit or noL There have been a num her of fights which would havo been very brief affairs had it been my decide de-cide to make quick work of my opponents. oppon-ents. There is not the least doubt in mv mind but that 1 could have defeated Riihlin, FlfZKlmmons or Crhett In lcs llmo had I been more aggressive and been anxious to score, a knockout To me there is nothing In n knockout, only that It brings victory homo sooner. soon-er. In none of the three fights that 1 have named have my opponents been knocked out. Ruhlln was beaten down gradually until he waa so badly used up that he could fight no longer. He was all out so far .'is fighting wa3 concerned, yet ho showed some sIriis of life and was moving, so some people peo-ple thought he was stalling Ho was not, you can bet your life on that What damage do you think. I could do hy a swing with all my strength Well, that Is hard to tell As I say. I never tiled to hit a man with all my strength. I have practiced such blows on the punching bag and T have found It an easy matter to smash them w 1th a felngle blow. |
