Show CITY GUARDS AGAINST FLOODS City Road Supervisor T. W. Jones, who has had a force of men and teams at work at the intersection of Twcnty-flrt Twcnty-flrt etroet and tho Weber rlvor, states that the rlvor has fallen two feet during dur-ing tho pa9t two days, and that tho stream today is a tame one compared to what it was a week ago. Tho work done on Twenty-first street Is for tho purpose of protecting tho city sewer pipes from the overflow over-flow of the river during tho high water Beason. Mr. Jones finished driving the ilos yesterday and today the men aro building tho log cribs and placing the stone in them. It will require about three or four days' time to finish fin-ish tho operation, when, tho street supervisor says, tho bank of tho river will be bo strongly protected that there will be no danger of its giving way to the flood waters for twonty-flvo years to come. The large pine piles have been driven driv-en Into the ground fifteen feat and the crib holding tho rock and earth is 250 yards long. 10 feet wide and 6 feet deep. When the work is completed com-pleted there will bo in the log cribbing crib-bing something over 2S0 tons of rock, mo6t of which was furnished by the railroad companies free of charge. Other places along the river banks, both of tho Weber and Ogden rivers, where thero Is danger of the water overflowing and damaging property, have been strengthened to the point that all danger of damage from the water has been overcome. |
