Show HOKEN OLSEN HEAVILY FINED The case of the 6tate against Hok-en Hok-en Olsen of Huntsvllle came on for trial beforo Judge Murphv this forenoon, fore-noon, the verdict being "guilty." Mr. Olsen was charged with selling liquor liq-uor at Huntsvllle without a license March 23rd, thro cases being filed agaiust blm. He was fined $100 for the first offenso and $50 each for the other two. The defense introduced no testimony, testi-mony, but demurred to tho Jurisdiction Jurisdic-tion of the municipal , court on the grounds that the city of Huntsvllle haB not yet been disincorporated. It was contended by the defense that Mr. Olsen had applied to the county commissioners for a license to sell liquor liq-uor In Huntsvllle and that the commissioners com-missioners advised him that the matter mat-ter could net be considered by them, because the final paper3 for the dls-lncorporation dls-lncorporation of Huntsvllle had not been drawn. The testimony given by witnesses for the state was to the effect that three young men entered the business busi-ness place of Olsen at Huntsvllle, March 23rd, and urchased of him three bottles of whiskey and several drlngs over the bar. Judge Murphy held that he had Jurisdiction In the case and rendered a verdict of guilty against the defendant, assessing the fines as above stated The attorney for the defendant gave notice of an appeal, and the bond for the same Is now being prepared. |
