Show INSURGENT IP ON Republican Recalcitrant Congressmen Are to Fight Lack Washington, Jan. r. It Is expected that the insurgent Republican members mem-bers of the houso will call a meeting at an early date to give earnest consideration con-sideration to the situation arising from the announcement that tho administration ad-ministration would no longer countenance coun-tenance "insurglng" in congress and would withhold patronage from tho recalcitrant members. Most of tho radical Insurgent leaders lead-ers on the house 6lde feel that, with the elections but a few months distant, dis-tant, it is a life and death struggle with them, and consequently, when fenced Into the fray, hae no hesitation hesita-tion about carrying Iho war to any extent. The effort to defeat Insurgent congressmen con-gressmen by starting a fight against them in their home districts, as was reported had already begun in several districts of the west, has hit hard, ami the congressmen so attacked will probably make no choice of weapons In defending themselves. It was expected that some statements state-ments would be forthcoming today from the administration side as to its attitude regarding the insurgents. So far Postmaster-General Hitchcock has remained silent under the statement emanating from Representative Miller of Minnesota to the effect that Mr. Hitchcock was holding up the appointments ap-pointments of postmasters recommended recom-mended by insurgent Republican members of tho house. Published intimations in-timations that this course was being pursued with reference to a number I of congressmen from Minnesota and I W isconsin has so far brought no for-I for-I mal denial from an3- administration ! authority. |
