Engineer Mc- J Phcters and a fireman and engineer, names unknown, were killed today In a head-on collision on the Great North-em North-em road near Burnaby," flvo miles out of Vancouver. Tho trains were No. 274, which left Seattle this morning for Vancouver, and a local bound for Ladner. B. C. Tho Ladner train was delayed In leaving Vancouver by tho draw being open at the False creek bridge. Five-minutes Five-minutes later the train was Just entering en-tering Wolf's Siding when the Vancouver-bound train, whose engineer apparently ap-parently believed he had a clear track, thundered around the curve. The locomotives lo-comotives were smashed In. the head-on head-on Impact. Engineer McPheters of Seattle had taken the place of Engineer McCade on the fatal run today. McCade on a previous occasion had escaped death by taking a holiday. ' The coaches were not demolished. Two women were severely burned and were taken to the hospital. Conductor Conduc-tor Lanagan of the Seattle train was Injured internally but will recover. |
