Show MEETING OF SCHOOL , BOARD THREE BIDS FOR SCHOOL FURNITURE FURNI-TURE ACCEPTED. MlpMillan, Ogden and Boyle Furniture Furni-ture Companies Successful Teachers Recommended. At the regular meeting of the board of education last nlgnt bids were accepted ac-cepted from three linns for furniture to he used in tho new high school building to the amount of $1,000. The McMillan Furniture and Paper company com-pany of Salt Lake received the big end of the amount, being awarded the contract for 1,000 common school desks and I5u backs, which thev agree to furnish for p.G-10. Next In oVder of amount Is the Ogden Furniture and Carpet company, which will furnish 10 oak. stand desks for use in the. com- mercial department for $373. Tho Itoylc Furniture company of Ogden received re-ceived the contract for stand stools to bo used in the same department, for a consideration of 5 . On motion of Mr. Coulter an appropriation amounting to $100 was allowed to recompense Superintendent Superintend-ent Mills for expense to be incurred on his forthcoming trip to Denver, as a delegate to the convention of the National Educational association. The question as to whether kindergartens kinder-gartens will be maintained at all of tho grade schools in the cltv was referred back to the finance committee for further report at the next regular regu-lar meeting. The contract for repairing and repainting re-painting the roofs of the various schools was awarded to R. S. Brown, who will agree to do all npppnrv work for $1.25 per hundred square feet and to keep the same In repair, or ! guarantee his work, for a period of five years. Superintendent J. M. Mills presented present-ed to the board a list of Janitors whom he recommended for service at the various schools, which, after a short consideration, was laid on the table, pending a personal investigation by each member of his especial ard. A list of teachers of various grades was presented by Superintendent t Mills, which includes the names of ' twelve recent high school graduates. I , ur positions as assistants In the grade schools.' The assistants will be r employed in the principal's office and -vvi II be called upon to substitute In the lower grades when necessary. Tho salary recommended by Superintendent Superintend-ent Mills for these assistants is $25 a month. Superintendent Mills was anxious to have the entire list favorably favor-ably passed upon, hut the board decided de-cided that time was necessary for tbem to glxe the list careful consideration consid-eration and It was decided to allow the matter to go over for a special meeting to be, held at 1 o'clock Monday Mon-day afternoon, when action will be taken. Cash on hand was reported as being $71,445.01, which Includes $123.54 Interest In-terest on the deposit in tho First National Na-tional bank. Expenditures for operation opera-tion and maintenance of the school during tho month of May was reported report-ed as bring $12.320.r.S. Regular monthly bills to the amount of $l.fMii) were received and accepted, except that of the Rocky Mountain Uell Telephone Tel-ephone company, which amounted to $25 for the regular monthly rental of telephones for JJie month of June This bill was referred to the jndiciarv' committee, com-mittee, who will confer with the management man-agement of the telephone company concerning a reduction in tho rate or the relinquishment of charges durin" the vacation months.
