Show tion, It would be well to take up the question of calling a meeting of tho peace officers of the west, to be held in Ogden. for tho purpose of reaching some conclusion as to how, vagrants and criminally' Inclined wanderers should be treated by each community. As It Is now, all communities are shirking responsibility, driving, the vagrant and suspicious character from place to place, refusing to meet the problem until, by overt acta of criminal' crim-inal' transgression, these itinerants finally become a heavy charge upon the law-abiding. Inasmuch as all communities suffer, by reason of this failure on tho part of any one to do Its full duty, some concerted con-certed action should be decided upon. The only manner by which this fixing of community responsibility can be arrived at is in holding a convention conven-tion of those instructed with the enforcing en-forcing of law and order and caring for the derelict of society, and this ! Ogden can bring about by calling a convention to be held In this city some time soon. OGDEN SHOULD BE MADE A CONVENTION CON-VENTION CITY. Ogden should become a convention city. The more this city advertises its attractions to the outside world, the greater will be its growth. Everyore admits Ogden is beautifully beautiful-ly situated and has more natural resources re-sources than any other city of its sle in the intermountaln country, but the dovclopinent of those resources is comparatively com-paratively slow. There Is one way in vjhlch to advertise adver-tise which will bring results and that is to draw the people here by conventions conven-tions or other gatherings. Our hotel accommodations may not be equal to the demands of large con-ent!ons, con-ent!ons, but hotels will come, if we create the demand. Already plans are being made for a convention of the business men and livestock people of the "Inland empire" em-pire" to be held in Ogden. That con ventlon should bring to this city 2,000 representative merchants and freight cblppere of this interior country. It should be a business convention with- out a hurrah or parade. The purpose is to bring the heads of big business institutions and others together to "is-cuss "is-cuss ways and means to force the railroads rail-roads to deal impartially with the peo-plo peo-plo of what is known as the inland empire; aud there would be no need for diverting pleasures while the conference con-ference was on. At the close of tho convention, tho visitors might be shown over tho city and taken for a trip through Ogden Canyon. j While the Weber club has this sub- I Ject of conventions under cousidera- |
