Show I SIXTEEN UNDER PERJURY TAINT Witnesses, Attorneys and Defense in Murder Trial Accused SPOKAKE, Wash., Sept 20. Ch.re of conspiring to commit a crime and to pervert Justice were filed in auperlor court here Tuesday against attorneys, witnesses and detectives de-tectives for the defense in tho trial of Maurice Codd. acquitted here last winter of a murder charge in connection con-nection with the death of Frank P. Brlnton, a soldier at Fort George Wrirht. Named In tho Information were George H. Crandoll. former prosecuting prose-cuting attorney of this county, and Attorneys F. C. Robertson and Lester Les-ter P. Edge, prominent members of the local bar; W. E. Stauffcr and J B. Cook, detectives; Maurice Codd and his three brothers, James, Ambrose and Josoph; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Potts, Ruth, Nellie and James W Fryett, Bernardino Collins and "Madeline Tompkins. All of them, except the last named, were charged in an information with subordination of perjury In connection connec-tion with testimony offered in the Codd defense. The conspiracy charge filed Tuesday alleges that they conspired con-spired to induce witnesses to give false testimony In Codd's behalf. Brinton was killed by a fall down a light well In a rooming house hero after he and Codd had engaged In an altercation. The state charged that Codd threw him over the bannister ban-nister of tho IlKht well. The defense contended Brlnton fell over. |
