President Presi-dent Harding has had added the extreme ex-treme strain of being informed that Mrs. Harding Is in a critical condition and her recovery Is not assured. Our presidents for years past -hae had no happy lot. Roosevelt was a fctorm center. Taft was bent with scandal attaching to hl8 official family. fam-ily. Wilson lost his wife und was stricken by an almost fatal blow, and President Harding is going through JW endless anxiety. When Chief Justice Taft passed through Ogden on his way to the meeting of the American Bar Association, Asso-ciation, he told of dropping m on President Harding before leaving Washington. The chief justice Vas In good humor, which is his normal condition, con-dition, but the president was depressed de-pressed and said- "Chief justice, I see you find pleasure pleas-ure in your duties, but I cannot understand under-stand "why any one should envy me my task." From the time he entered office, President Harding has had big problems prob-lems to 6olve, and, at times, has faced iilu ptrong opposition even within his own j3 party. Today the companionship of the years, which has been his consolation and support, is threatened. The country coun-try will join with him in hoping that his devoted wife will be spared to comfort and enjoy the high honors which a nation has conferred. |
