Show Elsie Janis and Her Gang of Entertainers Make Big Hit at Orpheum in Fine Musical Revue Ogden has been visited by rexue after revue, some good and some not to good, but there has been none more entertaining than the show Elsie Janls and her gang put on at the Orpheum iheatre last night before be-fore a rather good sized audience. Elsie doesn't go in for ostenta-! ostenta-! tion. There are no stupendous stage Bettihga great gobs of pretty girls and vaseline. 1 chorus boys like in some of the othet musical shows i seen here She has only about a dozen men and about ten girls in her troupe. Her .setUng-i nre Hrtlsiic but not massive mas-sive and I he costume" are pretty bit' nol numerous. ' Thus -. seem that. Ine-kln atjrre.it many of the dew-dads upon which larger productions depend to please the audience, the small Janls g mils', depend wholly upnii their ability abil-ity as entertainers to get by and tliej do get by very well. The singing in the Janls revue is of a high order. The voices of the soloists were pleasing and in the ensemble en-semble numbers the harmoniojH blending of the vocal efforts was a re elation There is comedy work of an unusually un-usually Interesting brand because so much of it Is out of the general run of such work done In revues. Some excellent dancing was very much enjoyed en-joyed by the audience. Certain whimsicalities in the production pro-duction were such chuckle make) I that tho recalling of these features brings smiles the day after One of these was the efforts of The Under- Study (Charier. Lawrence i to learn the ieadlng man s song As he sings I he listens to Instructions from 'h stage manager. The instructions wov nol directed at him but at some seen shifters. Nevertheless the nov-li nov-li e endeavors to sing pursuant lo th. directions given for dressing the Htago. Another bright spot was the toreador tor-eador scene In which Gus Shy was i he toreador and is assisted by the eight Spanish onions. An enjoablo skit was the empiov- ment office scene where eight Job-i Job-i less veteran" wait in the hope of getting get-ting a job and entertain themselves h singing the "Ronus Blue?" Monk Watson the lad of color In this unemployment scene, was a laugh maker In other skits, including includ-ing his little bit about the propertv man Miss Janis, herself, made ,n decided hit. She was paying her first visit to Ogden yet she had hardly reached I the stage before she seemed to have won a place Which is usually reserved reserv-ed In linden for old treatrlcsl friends, without an exceptional voice, Miss I Janis .sings with great expression and I artistry. She Is ;i splendid actro - and a clever Imper.sonatoi Her slim-ness slim-ness makes her dancing seem all the j more graceful and throughout h r performance! she seemed to radiate that something which we designate I by the Overworked term pep." j After a show filled with out-of-I the-ordlnary features. Miss Janis fa'ls I back upon the discredited hokum of ' waving the (Jnfted Slates flag to got j up enthusiasm for the (male. gut I she can almost be forgiven for this j because of the attractive stags pit -turc she has produced in weaving 1 I Glory to help make her show a gun-cos? |
