Show PLAN LONGER DAY FOR U. S. EMPLOYES WASHINGTON May 20 Establishment Establish-ment of the eight-hour day for employes em-ployes In the executive branches of the government is being considered by the administration. The thousands of clerks, stenographers stenogra-phers and other minor employes In the various departments In Washington, almost without exception, work seven hours a day. The consideration being given to lengthening of the day is predicated pre-dicated on the belief that it would enhance en-hance economy and efficiency. Studies made by experts at the request re-quest of government officials are said to show that clerical workers who by the way, form by far the creatcst proportion pro-portion of those who would be affected affect-ed by a change can work throughout an eight-hour day with topmost efficiency ef-ficiency and without fatigue, although six hours made up the greatest period j of working efficiency for skilled work- , ers in such task as require great mus-cular mus-cular actlvlt . . |
