Show FAMED RACING DOG OF FAR NORTH DIES BERKELEY. Cal.. April 14 Baldy of Nome, famed for the races won In Alaska, his heroic deeds that have been put into prose and verse and for tho 2S sons nnd grandsons ho gave to France for the world war, was burled here today He died in a hospital Of old age arid his final resting place I-under I-under the rosebushes In tho garden of "Scotty" Allan, whose life ho once saved. Baldy wan 15 years old. He was two years old when Allan "mushed" him through the first of his seven i races for tho all-Alaska sweepstakes ;of 418 miles. With Baldy as Ihe j leader, Allan was bruucht In winner six times. In one race Allan was S6-, S6-, nously injured and Baldy stopped the dog team of which he WOS the leader 1 and refused to leave his master In tho snow and cold. Baldy was owned by Mr and Mr C. E. Darling, who live Jn Berkeley. I Larllnp and Allan raised him from a 1 Malamute puppy. 00 |
