Show I FIVE MEN IN PERIL AS BALLOON DRIFTS TO SEA PENSACOLA, Kl.t , March 2 Scores of naval air and surface sur-face ornft today took up anew the Bearch J'.r the free balLum I from the naval air station here which waa reported adrift at s ;i j yesterday with five men aboard. The last heard from the balloon yesterday was that U waa then off St. Andrews bay, drifting toward to-ward the open Bea and only about one hundred feet above the water Two messages brought in by carrier pigeons told the phtrht of the b.'dloonists. The last said all the ballast had been thrown overboard but at that time the big gas bag waa slowly .sinking. A dirigible and a number of seaplanes were immediately dispatched dis-patched to the location given but they found no trace of the balloon bal-loon The balloon left the air station at 5 o'clock Tuesday evening for an all night Might, expecting to drift to land, but apparently a shift in the wind took them toward the coast. The craft is in charge of Chief Quartermaster E. Wilkinson, one of the mast experienced fliera at the station, and in addition carried R Bland, machinist mate, and E. L. Kershaw, J. C.
