Show THE SECOND IVARD indulges in inan an enjoyable evenings one of the best entertainments of the season that we have witnessed thus far was that given by the second ward wi ard sunday school on monday night notwithstanding the day had bad been stormy and the roads were muddy the house was crowded to its utmost capacity the program was prolific rich and well arranged iu in two parts the overture by the orchestra under the efficient b of mr bir L ford put increased life into the large audience and raised their expectations of an all excellent evenings treat they were not disappointed this was followed by the opening chorus winter song by the school which elicited much vigorous appreciation by the audience after prayer by the chaplain tl ti a entertainment was continued by the presentation resen tation of grandpas birtis day an fill operetta in which thirty aix children of the sabbath school took part this truly splendid part of the proceedings was arranged by the skillful manage management meat of miss rosa pearce who evinced a talent of a high order in one so young in in this direction the village blacksmith mr william pearce was was grandpa which character he filled to perfection his daughter rosa presiding at the organ in the accompaniments indeed the operetta was efficiently rendered was very affecting and often called out repeated and prolonged applause from the large audience the next thing that riveted the attention of the audience was a tableau the stolen kiss kim the actors in which were master walker west and alies josie who performed tho the parts more like jike adepts than juvenile amateurs the second part opened with a quartette consider the lilies by misses rosa pearce mary boyle voyl ellen pingree flora purdy and Aless rs willard sam purdy betout E tout and win pearce and waa was followed by recitations reci tationa soars etc by master albert mrs E ballam mrs E delemater miss bliss may morley and mr E tout and closed with a tableau rock of ages by miss thirza A hall the entertainment concluded with an amusing farce entitled A quiet family which elicited roars of laughter from the people those who took part art in this performance for mance were am wm purdy john C carr T S browning anthony carr Bli misses sAes annie welch annie newman esther parker sarah welch we have given the names of those who took part in the entertainment because we cannot on this occasion do less upon the merits odthe of the several performers of course ourse we pass but without being considered invidious wo we arc are sure that all will concede that too much credit cannot be accorded to mis rosa hosa pearce for her untiring diligence and the efficient manner in which she had trained the three dozen juveniles who took part in the operetta the whole affair atair was presided over by superintendent john and his assistants it was a complete success and was highly creditable to all |
