by the council adverse to any such extensions mr taylor had no information that the council had ever taken any action forbidding the extension of the water ll 11 tins whereupon councilor horrocks referred to a resolution taken about six weeks ago when a petition for an extension of the works was refused councilor bo boyle yle had no heart at atall all in the matter as ho he felt the city had no more jurisdiction oyer over the water works alderman farr thought the tle water works co asked for tho the approval of the council only out of court courtesy aa as they had bad already balmir the I 1 labor eyo r of extension ho he was in favor that tho the city do not expend a dollar on tho the water works this summer and that it be tho the sense of tho the counsel not to approve of th tho 0 extension of the water system mr taylor thought that the directors of the water works co stand in the same position to the city council as tho the council stands to the general public being agents in trusted wit with h the management of public interests in the public ewhen the mayor interposed that the council in various instances had lot the general public know beforehand what they were about and obtained their consent before taking action councilor boyle made further remarks on the matter p considering the extension of the m mains ains an important affair on which the council should have been consulted alderman farr admitted that the directors of the water works were perfectly capable of managing the business but he did not think it sensible for the council to sanction the arbitrary actions of th the a com company pany councilor did not see why they should borrow any trouble about it as tho the water works board did not ask for any money tho the mayor exemplified the democratic feeling which governed this Counci land always inspired them to let the public their masters know what they are doing and going to do alderman farr appreciated the good will of mr taylor in reporting the water boards late lato action mr taylor stated further that four hydrants would bo be necessary in the quarter of town reached by the tile new extension which would cost th the a city 10 a month councilor horrocks Hor 3 moved and alderman Farr seconded that it bo be the sense of the council to disapprove of tho the action of tho the water works board in extending tho the system as spoken of before tho the motion was put and carried without opposition councilor boyle reported that tho the special committee on lester Leater park pavilion had accepted a plan by N C flygare for an octagon structure and after specifications had been obtain ed bids would be advertised report accepted councilor Ilor rocks stated that he be had about exhausted the fund allowed him on pauper account and
