made in repairing seating and furnishing school rooms as well as in selecting officers and teachers Ilo however wever there is yet et much room for improvement in this respect but the steady progress to tos ivard ya best beat ie Is a cause of pleasure to choto who lio take interest in the education er I 1 welfare of the it will be seen from front the statistical ical report that there are arc nineteen school districts District a in the tile county which have reported and one new district suit salt which no report has been received out odthe of the number reported one taylors is a new in the county this shows the necessity of the efforts that are being extended to centralize and to grade tile schools there are 4 3 60 children cli ildren in the county within the age which is ail an in increase cresse over the number in out of this number there was an all enrollment of or nearly 70 per cent but the average daily attendance was only 1700 or about 39 per cent actually attending se school lioI to this number must be added children who are under the ae of six 1 ix years and who ho at aio 0 over 18 acar cars old who were enrolled the number acu tally attending seems isaiall and it is to be hoped that it will greatly increase this season reason but com compared with former years cars it is encouraging cou raging in 1880 the number ac the schools was 1190 1196 or 33 percent per cent in issa 1400 or 3 CO 06 percent per cent 17 n or 35 per cent showing a it steady increase ill up to 1 1884 8 4 when the number is 1700 or 39 per cent the avert average go monthly pay of male for school tax donations rents etc taking 1706 1700 as the number of children who have actual actually ay been in attendance atten danto a at t school it t is interesting to note that the cost for each child for teachers salaries was about sa 50 and for all expenses about 1250 12 50 for the time tho tile schools were in session it requires no argument to 0 o convince tho 1110 people 0 that if a creater portion of tho ho t population pu aaion attended school much inoyo b befit befit would bo be derived from alie same expenditure ten districts out of the number re ported have compensated their trus 25 having been appropriated dialed for or tins purpose which is a littia le over 2500 fyr for cadi each trustee but then it bs bo remembered that there were 27 or A arly no pay whatever A for their serviced eg the total value of alie school property in the co county anty is reported at fal 06 of which amount 10 is held in land in buildings 75 in furniture and 1535 in apparatus too to tich confidence cannot annot be placed in these estimates as many oft of the lie rel reports on this his particular point are very carelessly sly arranged a 1 I 1 pit 1 0 0 is eliat while le h school C hool matters arc are in a satisfactory state there is id yet mini much room for improvement in ili the matter of attendance the lie trustees should especially exert themselves to set get more children
