the night time the specification fi of game birds and the fixing of the term of protection for dc game gaine birds and the fixing of tho the time of protection for three years these features will find universal acclamation clai cla aaion in the interest of the harboring and perpetuating of those valuable breeda breeds on an which such a cruel a and ad merciless war of f el extermination bermi has hitherto been waged without let or hindrance io sections attention is devoted to the protection ot of the fleet ants that in inhabit the mountain Z heights having been wien almost entirely driven from the valley pasturages rages and hillsides hill sides by the ruthless firearm and in not a few instances tho the still more wore murderous poison of man it ennett that every emery person who between th so aa as to prevent a out that entire intire bradica r w t tion of their kinds which has been menacing them for some yearn years past by tho so often wilful useless tu eless merely destructive pursuit of the four footed denizens of the moun talu A new and very urgently needed provision of the law sc 11 appropriate to provide for the 1 stoppage of a hideous habit babit lately indulged in by the indians indiana in in slaughtering laught ering pieer deer merely for dwir kins skins leaving the carcasses unused says that the provisions of this act apply to indians indiana who kill deer for their this is a provision rendered absolutely necessary by the recent reckless depredations on the part of indiana whose ien Beni elesa seless slaughter of game limply for the hides has decimated the ranks of those fine animals to a deplorable almost irreparable degree and actually rendered lefiti mate hunting in this neighborhood e almost an impossibility As it is much more difficult to prevent the killing of game by leg legs isla tive enactment than to discover and punish such actions when the ill gotten product of the breach of law reaches tho the market the strict fe guard of the old law is retained which provides that every very person who buye sells or has in his posses riou tion any of the game enumerated in tho the two sections taken or killed within the unas timo during which the taking or or killing n 9 pro habited hibit hibi ted cd eill except buch as nie are tamed ant e or kept for mr dhow vr curiosity ami and every person p creots who buys eells leeNs or offers for sale the skin of any an animal tho the killing of which is herein prohibited is guilty of a misdemeanor this may sound or seem rather carali and severe but wo we cannot see in which other way the authority of justice could be dainta maintained 1 luied and the principles of the law a W enforced any one dealing in home game in prohibited season certainly constitutes himself what might be called a receiver of stolen goods rendering himself liable to the penalties affixed to his misdemeanor on tho the whole and in particular we wish to repeat it the new fish and game law docs does its framers credit and we hope it will be obeyed |
