Show THE NEW BRIDGE ow 11 alic te beatr vi river at Ri rivendale description and cost cot of or the structure the people of south weber and River Ri verdale dide especially and the public generally have for fora a longtime been put to much inconvenience trouble and expense by the destruction of the I late ate bridge we may say bridges which spanned the weber river south of taylors mills A great deal of property haa has been destroyed by tho the high waters in that section and amneh ris khas been run and some lives have been lost or periled perilea while attempting to cross this stream when ife th bridge had become useless at various times the old bridges had been patched or repaired as was thought V in a substantial durable manner at great outlay the territorial rit orial legislature appropriated jneane to help in this matter but last year theold the old timbers creaked I P parley some went down stream and others remained at tho the old stand ai but ut were useless as a means of crossing croming the tile river A new bridge became a necessity and we arc are pleased to announce that that necessity la is now supplied on tuesday in company with col david moore we ive visited and examined tho the new bridge wo we were very much pleased to see so substantial a structure the carpenters were then eign engaged ged dayi ti down tho floor which they finish on wednesday evening ool booro is the contractor and builder but his son mr david ina M moore haa IM superintended super intended the eon truc tin ifie span is feet the full length a of floor is feet width of floor 14 feet hight of structure 15 16 feet in tho the clear there arc are 14 panels of braces to each aeh truss the bridge is supported by 68 main and four counter brace rods ranging na in length from 10 to 26 feet and n d 11 ahou t o 11 inches thick thich there arc are also between and bolts ranging from nine inches to three feet in length and from five eights to ono one and one fourth inches in thickness there is nearly feet of lumber in the bridge this fine structure rests en on two right substantial abutments built of sand stone and granite rock rocke laid in cement mortar throughout through out theae these abut abutments menh rest on fifty six iron iron P pointed hinted which firo are driven twenty feet below the surface and are cut off twenty six inches below water mark they are capped ca ed with heavy timbers on ale the rock work is built wo we understand the ae contract price of building the brida bridge is part of this amount Z was appropriated by the territorial legislature and part by the county court of weber county the work waa was commenced in ili the latter part of the summer of 1881 and the carpenter work was completed on wednesday all eliat now remains to bedolli be done is some filling in the approaches at each end of the span which will take but a few days to finish wo we most heartily congratulate tho the traveling public on oil the erection of the new solid crossing which now spans the wicked weber near Ri verdale and believe they will have cauca to praise the tile bridge that will carry them safely over |
