Show HORRIBLY HURT AC IL C P S switchman wItch nian run ran oyer by a engine about naif half past post eight on thursday night a terrible accident happened to a switchman on the C P 11 R track at the depot in this city the particulars as far as our reporter could ascertain are as follows john jelin elvin ancog I lie company s switchmen had opened the switch to run im engine hem from h em on one e track to anether aneth cr instead of stepping on to the front step stop board on t tho engine he walked ahead but it appears that lie was walking between the wrong rails when the engine overtook him hill threw him down and dragged him forward some sixty or seventy feet before he was discovered ho lie cither either did not shout to the th engineer or that person did not hear bear him in in consequence of the wind which was blowing strongly at the time when discovered his n right leg was terribly fractured and mangled inan led from front the ankle up to near the anee knee ho he also received some severe internal injuries the extent of which liar not yet been ascertained ascer it tho the unfortunate fortunate tm man waa was taken to the omaha house on fifth street tAnd and placed upon a abed bed drs AS A S condon and john D carna ban were w ere called in as quickly as possible the surgeons surge ons found foud it was necessary to amputate the injured limb which they did the amputation wa was performed juat just below the knee this morning our re reporter perter called and saw tae patient who Is is as comfortable for table as could be expected unicy the circumstances still he lies iu ia a very precarious condition john elvin is 26 years old unmarried ho hj was born at ville chester county pa ho ile is the son of john and ann devere elvin he has a near relative named thomas D elvin living at the above named place he commenced to work as brakeman in the P yard on oct 1882 superintendent A G fell was with the patient this morning everything has thus far been done that could and everything will yet bo be done possible to save the young mans life of which hopes bo pes arc are entertained by tho the physicians |
