| Show railroad racket A good many surmises surmises have baye been afloat concerning the plans and projects of the U P R it concerning its western outlet especially the territory and people of utah are materially inte interested resEed in the intentions and schemes of the great overland road some light is thrown upon this thia matter by a dispatch received this afternoon from chicago reading as follows CHICAGO oct 11 II reports having been current some years past that the union pacific had determined to build an extension to the Pacific Coast in opposition to the central pacific and another by its new oregon branch to tho the columbia river a tribune une representative yesterday asked TU air rep r S 11 II 11 II clark general manager of the union pacific what truth there was in these reports mr clark stated there was no foundation whatever in these reports and no such extensions were contemplated there waa was some talk about constructing a line from one point on the main line of the union pacific in utah southwest to join the atlantic pacific and then build I jointly to san francisco since then the however an agreement has bas been made with tho the central pacific by which the latter is to be used as the union pacifica western outlet for a number of years and the scheme to build an independent line to be abandoned the atlantic pacific instead of connecting with the union pacific and building jointly y to acan an francisco has decided to build to the colorado river only and there connect with the new line built by the southern pacific the oregon branch of the union pacific would linao its terminus at daker baker city as originally proposed proposed and there connect with the brenon regon railway w ay and navigating N avi I n biting co a line the union pacifica s arrangements for western outlets were so complete and favorable now mr clark baid taid that there was no use of spending money U upon PO n new and independent extensions |
