| Show CITY COUNCIL kI the council met in the cit city hall ogden juno june 1881 abaer alderman an stanford presiding minutes of former meeting were read and approved thos D dee doe in behalf of tho the residents on and in the neighborhood of second street west of slain main represented that sometimes a large volume of water runs down the sect on said street which was dangerous to small children and overflowed fi the banks of the water courses and damaged the streets in a nuin number aber of places west of the tabernacle er ho he asked that the necessary repairs on tho wastewater water sect and the streets in that vicinity bo ve made referred to the committee on streets in behalf of the citizens north of ogden bridge councilor higginbotham represented that immediately I south of the road leading to the woolen woolen factory the sidewalk and street were damaged by water flowing through gli a slough used for irrigating purposes it was an c gat tion to trav travel el and a great annoyance to pedestrians he asked that the necessary ste steps be taken to remove the cause of complaint referred to the committee on streets the committee on streets to whom was referred the petition of AJ A J pattison Patt isan and others asking for a franchise for a system of street railways in ogden city recommended that the petition be granted and that an agreement be drawn up and entered into between the peti petition ers and the city embodying the following and such other provisions fisl as may be decem necessary r y vh that at the franchise be for five years exclusive clu sive that at the expiration of t the he five years an ail extension of twenty I y years ears may be granted not exclusive clu live sive that the first five years yeara competing companies may maybe be formed who shall have the right to cross any of the streets with turnouts turn outs and switches but not to run parallel on the streets occupied by the first company that a line of road shall be completed from main street to the railway Depo tand put in operation before sept 1882 adopted the special committee on fourth of july celebration reported that appropriate sub subcommittees committees had been dand were taking hold with energy to make the occasion a rk grand success the exercises w would bo be held in lester park where a commodious bowery would be erected the citizens were liberally subscribing the needed funds and it was expected that the city would be equally liberal report accepted and appropriations made for servi services oes of bands etc ete the assessor and collector pro pre dented the assessment roll tor for the year 1881 which waa was received the council determined that on monday august ast 1st 1881 at atten ten a m rom in the ci city H hall 11 th they y will sit as a board of tiba equalization aioo n of city taxes and hear and adjust complaints against the assessed value of any hily property the rate of f tax for tho the present year for contingent expenses was fixed at half halfon of one der per cent bills for public lab labor or were allowed the co council une il adjourned ano di arned to meet in the city hall juno june 1881 |
