incidentally def itally learned that somo members e of the council wished it to withdraw ls from from public service eer vico lie ile supposed they had reasons which see seemed ined to them at lit least to justify their action the object of this meeting was to give such members of the council tin an opportunity to resign and to fill the vacancies which may bo be occasioned by their resignation david M stuart respectfully tendered his h w resignation as alderman of the first municipal ward which was accepted edwin stratford was appointed to fill the vacancy he appeared appeared d duly qualified by filing bonds and taking the oath of office and took his seat as a member of tho the council CF Middleton said laid my associations with the tile council have been pleasant but circumstances over which I have no control require the action I am now taking I therefore respectfully tender my resignation of the tile second municipal ward his resignation was accepted robert rio wished to resign no response being made ho lie said aid 11 I regret the resignation of men with whom I have been so lon long and so pleasantly lea associated in this council counci if some of you have a press of business to which you wish wibb to turi your attention it will be financially to your advantage to be liberated the duties of public office I can in truth say that you have lave faithfully served your mentz and they tile have no causo cause to complain plain except it be of your resignations ig gnat nations ions our associations have been of a character to cement pi together i in the bonds of ho ile bid n adieu to the tile outgoing members with ac the best feelings of his heart and regretted that t they could not make up their minds to remain longer loner in th alie positions which had filled go so honorably and so well he lie welcomed the tile new dew members to their seats in the council and trusted that their labors would be pleasant characterized by wisdom and directed to the best interests of the cit city I adjourned sin die REGULAR SESSION the city council met in the tile city hall ogden march 17 1882 mayor L J herrick presiding minutes ot of regular meeting of march 3rd ard and minutes of special meet meeting in march 1882 were read and approved PETITION petition of david eccles and 21 others other protesting against the erection of any more wooden buildings on oil main street between third and fourth Fourt band and asking the council to ex extend tend the fire limits north to third street was referred to the committee on municipal laws 11 II E steele asked the council to sell him a strip of land near to the driving park in in front of his residence referred to the committee on public grounds A petition pet signed by robt C miller and sixteen others asking the council to open the third street north of ogden river running west to brooms bench was read and referred to the committee on streets A communication from the telephone ex co representing the advantages of tho the telephone system as a fire alarm and tendering to the tile council tho the use for this purpose of their instruments throughout the city at a trifling cost was referred to tho the committee on fire F ire depart ment it or committees the ho committee on public grounds junda to whoa whom was referred the petition of 11 B clawson Cl aMSon asking permission ion to build a powder magazine on the banks of ogden river about a mile and a half cast east from the state road recommended that n tie the petition t ln be granted report accepted recommendation ad adopted ted he hie committee on oil municipal laws asked and were granted further time on oil the petition of tho merchants and salesmen asking the council to pass an ordinance compelling business houses to close at eight each iii lit during the week except saturdays the committee on oil streets reported the labors of the street superintendent erin rin and recommended that J al lansnar Langs
